Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean

An esteemed professional is sought after to assume a critical leadership role at FAO, as Assistant Director-General/Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean. The successful candidate will be responsible for championing the Organization's policy positions and communicating its messages at regional level.
The position entails ensuring the due application of corporate procedures, standards and policies in the region, while supporting monitoring of regional events and medium- and long-term perspectives. Additionally, the incumbent will facilitate knowledge and information exchange, develop regional norms, standards, policy and regulatory frameworks, capacity development, resource mobilization and aid coordination.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the prioritization of FAO's work in the region in close consultation with Decentralized Offices and headquarters units, as well as regional Members and relevant region-wide organizations.
- Oversee and monitor the Organization's collaboration with its Members and institutional partners in the region, in accordance with agreed priorities, approved programme/budgets, strategic objectives and corporate policies.
- Manage the Regional Office by allotting resources, supervising staff, making efficient internal organizational arrangements, and ensuring the effective application of corporate technical policies and administrative procedures.
- Develop and implement the integrated (emergency and development) field programme at regional level, ensuring security, safety and welfare of staff and eligible dependants, as well as protection of the Organization's assets, property and information.
- An advanced university degree in a field related to food security, agriculture, rural development and agricultural innovation.
- Extensive leadership and managerial/administrative experience, demonstrating professional competence and strategic leadership at a high level.
- Familiarity with results-based management approaches and ability to manage programmes and budgets to achieve progress towards high impact results that respond to client needs.
- Fifteen years of relevant experience in the field of food security, agriculture, rural development and agricultural innovation.
A competitive compensation package is offered, including an estimated annual salary of $105,000 - $145,000, depending on qualifications and experience, plus benefits such as dependency allowances, rental subsidy, education grant for children, home leave travel, and pension fund entitlements under the UN Joint Staff Pension Fund.
