Come and be a part of this success. **Purpose**: Provides leadership and direction for the Selection and Definition phases of a Major Capital Project to create value and deliver approved business objectives, within scope, time, quality and budget constraints. All Project Studies must be carried out in accordance with the BHP Charter, BHP Business Requirements, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations, in compliance with BHP Our Requirements and with a core commitment in the areas of health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development. **About the Role**: Main Functions: Creates frameworks to generate creative thinking to explore and evaluate value creating opportunities and alternatives using the projects definition of value (derived from SOR/etc) as a guide. Methodically seeks to understand the point in a project at which assumptions are realised or not - consistently demonstrates the importance of effective decision making based on value at these points. Demonstrates efficiency and is methodical in mapping/planning how the prioritised options will be studied. Understand and applies NPV, IRR, Payback periods, OPEX, CAPEX and other relevant macroeconomic concepts. Leads the monitoring, benchmarks, and reporting of the individual project performance. Uses the Study Work Plan as a guide to manage the collection of information by contributing functions for their area of scope. Contributes to the integration of optimisation opportunities smoothly into the Business Case and Project Planning Contributes to decision making techniques/processes (what if analysis / scenario analysis) to account for risk and uncertainty. Brings it together - Is effective at identifying points of integration / commonality in options/assumptions generated by several functional streams. Demonstrates efficiency, effectiveness in integrating the Scope of Work of each Function into the Project Scope. Avoids duplications, gaps or overlaps across the project. Plans prior to negotiation to determine goals, concessions, non-negotiables, areas for trade and alternatives to the stated goals. Establishes routines and information flow with Strategy & Development decision makers and shapers, allowing the Business to take an active and informed role in the Project development. Demonstrates an understanding of Contracts relevant to Project settings (JV’s, EPC, EPCM) their “anatomy”. - Demonstrates an understanding of the Project budget and plan approval and governance requirements. Closes out Phase effectively by detailed recording and reporting on phase outcomes. Manages the governance (IPR) and authorisation process effectively avoiding unnecessary delay or confusions within and outside of the project. Effectively and proactively manages the expectations of stakeholders Validates that risks and permitting are properly assessed and controlled across the projects. Responsible of the general project communications targeted to the Development Studies team and PMO. Explores and iteratively reassesses the best fit solutions, takes ownership of project decisions and outcomes and monitors and manages impacts to value across the project lifecycle (e.g. social, environmental, commercial). **About You**: Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Electrical, Mining), or similar. Experience in managing medium (US$20M to US$250M) to large (>US$250M) capital projects. Experience across all major capital project development phases (identification, selection and definition studies). Leadership experience within Operational and Project settings across Minerals or Energy. Mine planning. Fleet Electrification. OEM CAEX Dump Truck Expertise. Decarbonisation.
