The Alternatives Specialist Player-Coach job is responsible for leading, managing, and coaching a team of Alternatives Business Development Specialists, while also operating as an Alternative Specialist in a defined geographic region. The coaching element of the role is designed to enhance the overall skill-set of a team of Alternative Business Development Specialists. This element will focus on alternatives product knowledge and positioning, in-field coaching and development, identifying best practices and implementing them across Specialist regions. This role will also be responsible for capital raising across the respective team within the Nuveen/TIAA alternative strategies in the wealth channels, and ensuring each of the team members are operating in alignment with all compliance policies and procedures. The Alternatives Specialist component of the job directs the sales and distribution efforts for the Alternatives Investments products across wealth channels in a specific geographic region. Under limited supervision, this job manages large projects and processes to maintain relationships with both current and prospective clients and to ensure the organization's offerings are well-positioned within the market and communicated consistently to relevant firms. This job also partners with the organization's Sales team to further efforts to sell and market the Alternatives Investments offerings by the organization
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Raise capital for Nuveen/TIAA's Alternative Strategies primarily within the Wealth Channels, including Wirehouse, Private Bank, Independent & Regional Broker-Dealer, RIA and Family Office
- Present the enterprise's Alternative capabilities to Financial Advisors and Investors to attract new clients and reach operational objectives
- Partner with multiple channel sales teams within the enterprise to implement best sales practices and to ensure excellent service for clients
- Educate the organization's Generalist Sales Team on the available Alternative strategies to help market and sell Alternatives offerings
- Manage the Alternative Sales pipeline for an assigned region and oversees the broader pipeline for the respective team of Alternative Specialists
- Develop relationships with prospect firms in the US Wealth channels in an effort to expand Alternative Strategies within client portfolios
- Lead home office sales desk relationships of key partner firms
Additional Responsibilities Educational Requirements
- University (Degree) Preferred
Work Experience
- 5+ Years Required; 7+ Years Preferred
FINRA Registrations
- SRC Indicator: Series 7; Series 63; Series 24
Physical Requirements

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5+ years of alternative investments sales leadership experience.
- FINRA Series 7, 63, and 24.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7+ years of alternative investments sales leadership experience.
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent; Masters, CFA or CAIA a plus
- Experience marketing into private wealth channels (wire house, private banks, broker-dealers, RIAs) is preferred

Base Pay Range: $200,000/yr. - $300,000/yr.
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
