Organization Setting and Reporting

This job is within the Natural Resources Division of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). The Chief of Division reports to the Executive Secretary. The goal of ECLAC is to contribute to the economic and social development of the region. ECLAC is responsible for designing, monitoring, and evaluating public policies, providing advisory services, expertise, and training to governments, and supporting regional and international cooperation and coordination activities.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates and implements the work programme of the Division.
  • Leads, supervises, and carries out the work programme of the Division.
  • Coordinates the work of different units within the Division and other UN agencies.
  • Ensures high-quality standards in all Division outputs.
  • Assists the Executive Secretary in work programme preparation and resource allocation.
  • Undertakes administrative tasks for the Division's functioning.
  • Recruits staff with attention to geographical balance.
  • Manages, guides, develops, and trains staff.
  • Leads the organization of meetings and substantive issues.
  • Participates in meetings, seminars, and provides expertise.
  • Represents the Division at various meetings.
  • Leads data collection and analysis efforts.

Education

Advanced university degree in relevant fields required. A doctorate/PhD is desirable. Experience in data analytics or relevant areas is beneficial.

Work Experience

Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience required in various fields. Previous experience in international organizations and project management is desirable.

Languages

Proficiency in English and Spanish is required.
