Position Summary
Bechtel is seeking a Field Construction Engineer for the Mining & Metals team, based in Chile. The position will be assigned to the field construction organization in managing the activities of the assigned contractors works.

Responsible for overseeing appointed Contractor's job site Electrical activities related to construction of temporary facilities and ensure that the construction operations and contractor's performance are in compliance with project ES&H, quality, schedule requirements, whilst maintaining effective relationships when interfacing with stakeholders.


Responsibilities

The Field Construction Engineer is principally responsible for:

  • Maintaining Bechtel's Zero Accident Philosophy, and ensuring contractor's compliance to the project ES&H plans, site security plan, traffic plans, emergency response plan, housekeeping, fire protection and jobsite work rulesLeads by example in all aspects of the works site. This includes safety, quality, and leadership. Encouraging all personnel to follow by these actions and attitudes.
  • Responsible for reviewing the Contractors' submitted daily reports in Aconex and shall escalate discrepancies in their own records to the SCE accordingly.
  • Actively engaging with craft on site during each shift to ensure all activities are being completed in line with the approved RAMS and the project ES&H standards. In addition, joint safety inspections with craft supervision are to be conducted and all actions closed.
  • Liaising with craft supervision within their works area daily on any issues on works not being completed correctly. Reporting any construction issues (e.g. constructability, safety, quality, progress compared to program, Contractor interface, etc.) to their supervisor immediately and assisting in their close out.
  • Leading the project temporary works requirements and site areas temporary works designs. Auditing the site works to the temporary designs to check on the correct construction and escalating as required.
  • Monitoring construction activities to ensure they are completed as per approved quality plan, ITPs, procedures and the latest IFC drawings.
  • Leading with all quality documentation to ensure compliance with project designs and specification.
  • Leads with the review of Contractor technical submittals.
  • Leading and understanding Contractor NCRs to ensure close out prior to works progression.
  • Reviewing Contractor estimated quantities and material takeoffs of the field purchases and materials submitted by the contractor and reporting any discrepancies. Checking all materials being used are approved for that project activity.
  • Checking all works are being completed within any permit and / or license conditions.
  • Monitoring that all changes to the works follow the correct process in the form of RFIs and FCDs prior to site implementation.
  • Completes daily checklist for a CE and issues to the SCE at the end of every shift.
  • Leading coordination and progress meetings with the Contractor.
  • Understanding different Contractor scopes and escalates should any issues arise on site.
  • Monitoring assigned contracts to ensure contract remains up to date in areas such as drawings, specifications, cost, and schedule.
  • Coordinating with the Field Construction Manager on activities affecting the contract administration operation.
  • Coordinating with engineering design on constructability issues.
  • Reviewing and commenting on the contractor's submittals, technical queries, field change documents and other technical documents including Drawings and As-Builts.
  • Supporting and guiding contractor to achieve the safety, quality, and schedule requirements.
