The Work You’ll Do:

The Director, Product Management is responsible for the commercial success of a product portfolio, overseeing product managers who are responsible for taking products from inception and ideation through design, build, launch, growth, enhancement and eventual sunset. The director of product management ensures the success of the products within his or her portfolio by enabling the product managers to succeed. He or she provides coaching and direction for the product managers reporting to him or her and ensures they can operate efficiently and effectively by utilizing and complying with the organization’s processes for product management. This role is responsible for commercial success for the products within his or her purview.

As Director, Product Management, you will work closely with other Sovos senior leaders to articulate and substantiate decisions regarding go-to-market strategies, product roadmaps, operations readiness, and sales enablement. You will engage with leaders across the organization, gather input from internal and external resources, and weigh them against business objectives to ensure our product lifecycle is maximized to exceed sales goals and achieves strong client satisfaction and retention levels.

 

More specifically, you will:

  • Manage a Product Management team, develop talent and provide clear goals and expectations
  • Communicate the vision and strategy, for the product portfolio for which he or she is responsible, across the organization; Evolve and adapt that vision and strategy. 
  • Encourage customer-focused innovation, and provide guidance and oversight for market and customer research to gather insight and understand user personas and needs
  • Oversee and provide direction for the creation and presentation of business cases
  • Monitor and report on the performance of the product portfolio over which the role has purview
  • Oversee and provide input into the process for creating, documenting and communicating product roadmaps
  • Oversee the gathering of competitive intelligence and perform competitive analysis
  • Oversee the process of creating prototypes and testing of product concepts
  • Ensure that product managers are properly documenting product requirements, user stories and artifacts to support the product development process
  • Oversee or lead work to create pricing models and facilitate pricing decisions
  • Coordinate with product development management on the product development process and technical resource allocation
  • Oversee activities to ensure that new offerings include the desired capabilities and launch on time and within budget
  • Ensure that product managers verify completion of the product and the readiness of related elements
  • Ensure that product managers provide support to sales (e.g. make prospect/customer calls, provide sales enablement content, contribute to internal and external social communities/blogs/portals) and directly participate in sales support as requested
  • Coordinate with product marketing for relevant activities and deliverables (e.g. buyer personas, competitive positioning, market requirements, launch plan)
  • Ensure that product managers follow a consistent approach to monitor product adoption and use and collect customer feedback
  • Oversee and enforce a consistent, objective process to prioritize and select product enhancements
  • Initiate or manage relevant partnerships with upstream  partners and customer development partners as needed
  • Assist in managing and resolving customer escalations as needed
  • Demonstrate initiative, drive, and determination to achieve results, success, and growth.
  • Act with integrity and demonstrates ethical behavior in all matters with all stakeholders
   

What we need from you:

  •  10 + years of progressive experience within the software industry; experience working within the compliance industry preferred
  • 5 + years of experience leading and developing outstanding people
  • Periodic travel required to Sovos locations or events
  • Exceptional business development, business management, and leadership skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork, ability to foster/manage relationships across multiple departments/stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, including the ability to lead presentations
  • Track record of exceeding expectations leading product management processes including visioning, customer/competitor research, strategic planning, business modeling, and product definition
  • International experience, both in terms of working in a globally distributed team with many different cultures and internationalization of the products is a plus
  • Experience in M&A and partnership planning preferred
