Senior Manager, Benefits Accounting

Robert Half is seeking a Senior Manager, Benefits Accounting to lead the North America monthly financial close process and participate collaboratively in financial regulatory compliance, managing financial information and providing decision support to business leaders. Leads the following teams: North America corporate benefits and payroll accounting

Specific responsibilities include:

- Oversees a team responsible for the GL Close and interfaces with other departments as necessary to ensure timing and accuracy of close activities. Given the dependencies on upstream systems/departments, this position influences resources and efforts across several departments to ensure timely reporting of the company's financial results. This requires broad-based, in-depth knowledge of multiple accounting disciplines.
- Manages teams responsible for North America Cost Accounting (gross margin) and SG&A, focusing on all benefits and payroll-related costs for both corporate and field employee populations.
Engages proactively in the professional development of direct reports. Exemplifies the LEAD behaviors for their direct reports and other employees in the department. Trains and develops employees through transparency and direct feedback.
- Proactively participates in organizational change management. Upskills team through training, hiring, re-organization and when necessary, attrition.
- Ensures innovation and continuous process improvement are clearly expected and rewarded, and part of the talent management and performance cycle.
- Provides leadership in approved and ad-hoc financial projects. Continuous focus on business process improvement and innovation.
- Builds processes and identifies key controls to ensure SEC/GAAP compliance in quarterly and annual SEC filings. Provides substantive insight into actual results to support executive management analysis and external reporting. Establishes and monitors an effective internal control environment, inclusive of both global financial systems, procedures, and processes.
- Establishes effective working relationships with both internal and external auditors, managing their expectations and time to create an efficient audit cycle.
- Manages teams against overall long-term strategic plans for the department. Develops in-depth knowledge of the company, competitive landscape, trends and economic and social environment of the organization.
- Ensures that all financial systems are optimized for both compliance and operational efficiency. Operationalizes accounting policy into the GL close cycle, including initiating configuration changes and leading change management initiatives with respect to both GL and sub-ledger changes.
- Establishes a comprehensive understanding of the global data governance model and ensures actual results comply. Monitors business activity for changes which could impact the data model and works collaboratively with both the Accounting Policy and Data Analytics team to ensure such changes are incorporated.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- High-level understanding of US GAAP, SEC reporting requirements/guidelines, and Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
- 10+ years of accounting experience including 5+ years public accounting experience preferred. Progressive managerial experience required.
- MS Office, including Intermediate/Advanced skills in Excel; Financial ERP experience (Workday Financials a plus).
- CPA strongly preferred
- Excellent planning, organization, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Requires the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and use judgment in prioritizing tasks.
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively with individuals with varied language skills and cultural backgrounds.
