What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a Business Development Manager, Finance and Development in Latin America. This role will be responsible for (1) developing financial solutions to solve project finance roadblocks and enable BESS hardware sales, and (2) acquiring and developing BESS projects to showcase Tesla technology. They will leverage Tesla's balance sheet, energy market expertise, and technology leadership to enable sales of Megapack, Tesla's grid-scale storage product. This unique role will manage a pipeline of both financing and development opportunities, using creative structures to unlock new markets and use cases.
Successful candidates will have experience in energy project finance in Latin America, with a strong track record of project success, and the ability to manage cross-functional teams, thriving in a fast-paced work environment with diverse colleagues. Candidates with both energy project development and project finance experience are strongly preferred. We are seeking tenacious candidates with a passion for Tesla's mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.
What You'll Do- Deploy capital: Lead the end-to-end process of identifying, evaluating, creating, and deploying financial offerings into customer-owned large-scale battery storage projects to enable sales team success. This includes: Due diligence and risk assessment of customer projects, Financial modeling and creative deal structuring (e.g. term loans, construction financing, bills of exchange, etc), Negotiation and contracting, Coordinating across internal teams, Lead development of utility-scale storage assets in key Latin American markets, including, Early-stage diligence on potential sites/projects to acquire
- Financial analysis of project economics
- Development and communication of key project risks
- Negotiation and contracting for project acquisitions
- Coordination across internal and external stakeholders to meet key milestones (e.g. interconnection, permitting, land acquisition)
- Development of a transition plan for construction and ongoing management of the projects
- Help guide Tesla's storage development strategy with market and commercial input
What You'll Bring- 5+ years of experience in utility-scale storage/renewable project finance; experience in utility-scale storage/renewable energy development/M&A strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of financing approaches in the energy space, including a track record of creative deals
- Familiarity with energy markets and project development differences, challenges and opportunities between markets (e.g., Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Argentina)
- Excellent communication skills, particularly with external stakeholders e.g., partners, local communities, authorities, and regulators
- Strong network across the storage and renewable industry in Latin America
- Familiarity with all stages of project development, from greenfield to COD
- Financial modeling expertise and understanding of critical inputs impacting project economics. Fluency in both English and Spanish, with Portuguese a strong plus
