Position Overview:

The Field Operations Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting scientific teams at remote locations. This position involves addressing logistical challenges, ensuring resource availability, and contributing to critical decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with scientific teams at field sites to deliver essential support and troubleshoot challenges.
  • Identifies and fulfills various logistical requirements, including inventory management, fuel logistics, and snow melting operations.
  • Monitors meteorological equipment and facilitates training sessions.
  • During time at the main station, focuses on training and preparing cargo for field deployment, while being adaptable to additional tasks as needed.
  • Maintains daily communication with field locations regarding resupply requirements, ensuring timely delivery of necessary cargo.
  • Provides assistance to camp personnel and coordinates support from various operational departments.
  • Depending on the assignment, may operate equipment, conduct weather observations, manage fueling operations, and engage in search and rescue efforts.
  • Ensures adherence to safety protocols and promotes a secure working environment.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

Additional Responsibilities:

Cargo Management:

  • Handles loading and unloading of aircraft, coordinating with loadmasters and flight personnel.
  • Prepares cargo for transport, including packaging, labeling, and weighing.
  • Assists with waste management and hazardous material identification, ensuring proper documentation and handling.
  • Organizes and maintains storage areas for equipment.

Operational Duties:

  • May involve operating snow grooming equipment and vehicles.
  • May include operating snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles.

Fuel Management:

  • Conducts fuel quality tests and manages fuel transfers.
  • May involve refueling aircraft and vehicles as necessary.
  • Tracks fuel usage and deliveries to various locations.

Galley Operations:

  • Creates and oversees a chore schedule for camp staff.
  • Provides culinary support, including meal preparation and cleaning tasks.

Mechanical Support:

  • Assists in tracking maintenance needs for camp equipment.
  • Operates small mechanical tools and provides repair assistance.
  • May involve operating light machinery for various tasks.

Other Duties:

  • Contributes to the completion of seasonal reports as per standard operating procedures.
  • Engages in community responsibilities and safety initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of relevant experience in expedition logistics, outdoor education, or related fields.
  • Wilderness First Responder Certification is required.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to thrive in remote and challenging environments while working collaboratively.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in computer applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Experience in polar environments is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with weather reporting and logistics operations is advantageous.
  • Experience in glacial travel and mountaineering is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Willingness to deploy to remote locations for extended periods.
  • Successful completion of medical and background checks is mandatory.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and outdoor work in extreme conditions.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License is required.
