A permanent position is available as Associate Professor in Work and Organizational Psychology at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Psychology. The position is linked to the Section of Methodology, Work and Organizational Psychology, Culture and Community Psychology, and Social Psychology (MAKS) at the Department of Psychology.

The Department of Psychology is Norway's largest provider of psychology education, offering programs for both licensed clinical psychologists and non-clinical professionals within the field of psychology. The MAKS Section covers basic and applied research (qualitative and quantitative) and teaching for the Bachelor, Master, Professional (Clinical) and PhD programs within its four main units.

More about the position

The Work and Organizational Psychology unit covers a broad range of the field. Current research areas include organizational change, organizational culture/climate, management, motivation, group dynamics, psychological contracts, quality of employment, workplace stress, and human factors. The successful candidate will be required to initiate and publish research in international peer-reviewed journals, present communications at international conferences, apply for external funding (e.g., RCN, EU), disseminate scientific knowledge, and carry out research in accordance with Open Science standards. Most of these research activities should be within the field of work and organizational psychology.

Your main tasks will be:

The position will carry a special responsibility for planning and implementing teaching in work and organizational psychology in the professional programme. The teaching content in the professional programme is regulated by the requirements outlined by RETHOS, The National Curriculum Regulations for Norwegian Health and Welfare Education, emphasizing knowledge and training in change management and leadership, as well as group processes, communication, prevention, and universal access.

The successful candidate is also expected to participate in the academic administrative functioning of the MAKS Section and the Department of Psychology (boards, committees, ad-hoc working groups, leadership, etc.). The general teaching language is a Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish) or English. As language comprehension is an important element in the training of students in the professional programme, proficiency in one of the Scandinavian languages is regarded an advantage.

What Qualifications are important in this role? Qualification requirements
  • PhD or equivalent qualification in psychology or a related discipline. Applicants who have not yet received their PhD must have documented submission of their thesis for evaluation by the time of application.
  • A strong research profile within the area of Work and Organizational Psychology and a track record of publications within the area in acknowledged publication channels.
  • Documented teaching experience within the area of Work and Organizational Psychology at both undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Documented pedagogical skills and an ability to take active part in teaching and administrative work.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Applicants who are not fluent in a Scandinavian language will have to learn Norwegian within the first three years of employment.
  • The successful candidate is expected to take up residence in the greater Oslo region to actively participate and contribute to the working environment at the Department of Psychology.

The applicants will be evaluated based on their documented academic qualifications as well as qualifications in teaching, management, and administration. Emphasis will be placed on research and publication in recent years as well as the candidate's future research potential.

  • Applicants must provide a 3-page document describing their different teaching competence and experience in work and Organizational Psychology at different levels.
  • Copies of educational certificates in English or in one of the Scandinavian languages.
  • A list of three references.
