About the Role

Finding enhanced ways to supply the materials required by the world

Seeking a Study Lead to bolster our expanding project portfolio in South America, emphasizing efficient project management and stakeholder engagement. Initially part of our New Growth portfolio, accountable for commencing and executing studies securely, promptly, and within budget. This involves recognizing and assessing alternatives, questioning assumptions, mitigating risks, and capitalizing on opportunities.

As we aim to extend our presence in South America, an opening exists for accomplished project or operations professionals with exposure to projects in Santiago, Chile.

We are a collaborative international team of technical specialists utilizing cutting-edge data and tools. Leading in automation and intelligent mining globally.

Initially reporting to the General Manager, New Growth and collaborating with a vibrant and exciting team, you will:

  • Function as a link between the business in South America and potential new projects, serving as the primary contact point
  • Cooperate with internal stakeholders to create Study Execution Plans and associated deliverables
  • Take charge of the study budget, timeline, and progress, ensuring alignment with objectives and plans
  • Coordinate with Rio Tinto Projects to support the delivery of outcomes
  • Implement robust study management techniques to enhance decision-making, documentation, project controls, and team communications
  • Collaborate closely with business units and exploration teams on technical, permitting, and approvals-related areas
  • Oversee internal governance and endorsement processes to advance the study through review and study stage gates
  • Interact with external stakeholders to negotiate project criteria and promote mutually beneficial results
  • Promote the performance and growth of the study team in line with Rio Tinto's core values
  • Provide inner assessments of other projects, contributing to knowledge sharing and ongoing enhancement efforts across projects and studies
Skills and Qualifications Required
  • Devotion to safeguarding yourself and your team
  • Demonstrated leadership practice with influential and negotiation abilities
  • Proven experience in study or project management, including some in the mining/minerals processing sector
  • Proficiency in risk management, commercial acumen, business analysis & reporting, financial, and operational/business understanding
  • Outstanding communication and collaborative skills, including proficient Spanish and English language skills
  • Extensive experience and understanding of various study stages
  • The capacity to grasp technical and stakeholder challenges and solutions beyond your field
  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management, Processing, Geoscience, Environmental Science, Law, Business Analysis, or relevant discipline
  • Passion for delivering practical, optimized solutions, innate curiosity, drive for outcomes, and appetite for constructive challenge and risk-based creative thinking
