This position is located in the Division of Production productivity and Management. The Research Assistant reports to the Chief of the Unit on Investment and Business strategies.

Responsibilities:

Under the overall supervision of he Chief of the Unit on Investment and Business strategies, the Research Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Researches, extracts and compiles basic information and technical data on policies for local or regional economic development in Latin America.
  • Sorts, consolidates, extracts and processes data and enter into relevant database.
  • Assists in monitoring developments/issues on he impact of economic crises on local or regional economies due to Covid 1
  • Assembles original statistical material; adjusts reported data from different sources and load data into computerized database system.
  • Assists in the evaluation and examination of data sets for accuracy, clarity and validity.
  • Assists in the maintenance of relevant computerized databases.
  • Prepares a variety of statistical and econometrical reports, presentations, tables, lists, graphs, charts and/or diagrams for information and review by senior officers to support studies conducted in the framework of the project.
  • Reviews, stores, classifies, and maintains relevant computerized databases.
  • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
  • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
  • Provides guidance/training to new/junior staff
  • Performs other related work as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification
Relevant training / studies in social and economic development or related area is desirable.

Work Experience
At least five (5) years of experience in collecting and researching data across various areas of social and economic development or related area is required

Experience in econometric methods is required.

Experience in managing microdata database about economic variables is required.

Experience in research activity in the main topic of the project is desirable.

One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Spanish is a working language of ECLAC.

For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; and fluency in Spanish is required.

NOTE:
'Fluency'' equals a rating of ''fluent'' in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand).
