Duties and Responsibilities

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. The internship in the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, Division for Gender Affairs, Santiago, Chile will last 3 to 6 (2 min/6 max) months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an "as-needed" basis. Under the supervision or overall guidance of the ASSOCIATE ECONOMIC AFFAIRS OFFICER: Diego Collado Work area the intern will contribute to: exploratory analysis on gendered fiscal incidence and ongoing reports on gender and fiscal policy. Specific tasks the intern will fulfil: • Reviewing documents • Data analysis • Collecting information • Attending, organising, and taking notes in meetings and events • Preparing draft presentations and documents




Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in economics or related field (e.g., Public Policy, Statistics, Social Policy); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in economics or related field (e.g., Public Policy, Statistics, Social Policy). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Good knowledge of STATA and in processing microdata from household surveys, especially those related to income and expenditure is required. Good knowledge of the tax-benefit microsimulation software EUROMOD is desirable.




Languages

Fluency in Spanish is required. Knowledge of English is required.
