Duties and Responsibilities

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. The internship in the Natural Resources Division, Santiago will last 2 to 6 (2 min/6 max) months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an "as-needed" basis. Under the supervision or overall guidance of Senior Economic Affairs Assistant. • Research and data collection, processing, and analysis on energy issues for Latin America and the Caribbean, specially related to SDG 7 and the Sustainable and Inclusive Energy Transition proposed by ECLAC. • Research and compilation of energy governance actions of the LAC countries related to the Sustainable and Inclusive Energy Transition proposed by ECLAC • Support in developing energy activities such as regional workshops and technical assistance missions, including identifying participants, sending invitations, developing agendas and following up on the organization. • Support on the development of a Regional Observatory for Accelerating Energy Transition in the region • Provide assistance in preparing documents, presentations, graphs, and web pages updates. • Perform other related duties as required




Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent). - For this internship, studies in energy, environment, natural sciences or economics are desirable Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish are required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
