This position is temporarily vacant for a period of 5 months.

This position is located in the Sustainable Development Policy Unit of the Sustainable Development and Human Settlements Division. The position is focused on environmental, economic, and sustainable development affairs.

**Responsibilities**:
Under the supervision of the Chief of the Unit, the Economics Affairs Officer (Environmental Policy) will carry out the following duties:
ECONOMIC OR SECTOR ANALYSIS
- Develops, collects, interprets, and analyzes specified statistics, qualitative socioeconomic and environmental information. Maintains databases and programmes for database management and organize non-qualitative information on sustainable development issues and trends.
- Drafts specified inputs for technical papers and analytical studies on selected global, regional, national or sector aspects on environmental development policies.
- Identifies and analyses policy proposals relating to assigned topics.
- Attends international, regional, and national meetings to collect information and to hold discussions with colleagues in other institutions.
- Assist in the organization and servicing of seminars on sustainable development, environmental democracy and others as needed.

TECHNICAL COOPERATION
- Participates in missions on sustainable development issues, usually as a member of a team.
- Prepare documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects.
- Engages in technical cooperation activities to contribute to sustainable development and Principle 10 activities.

GENERAL
- Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work Division´s services.
- Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Job - Specific Qualification
Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

Work Experience

Experience on sustainable mining in Latin America and the Caribbean is desirable.

A minimum of two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Spanish is a working language of ECLAC. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Evaluation of qualified applicants may include a substantive assessment, which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
