Engineering Team Lead About Regcheq Regcheq is one of Latin America’s leading RegTech companies, helping more than 600 organizations manage compliance, financial crime prevention, identity verification and regulatory risk through technology. We are building a regional SaaS platform in a category where reliability, scale and technical excellence truly matter. As we continue to grow across Latin America, we are strengthening our engineering organization—and we are looking for an Engineering Team Lead who wants to play a central role in that journey. This is not a coordination-only position. You will lead and develop an engineering squad, make important technical decisions and remain hands-on in the most complex and critical areas of the product. What You Will Be Expected to Achieve During your first 12 months, we expect you to help us build: A more autonomous engineering squad, with a clear development path for every engineer. Stronger technical definitions before development begins, reducing rework caused by unclear requirements or poorly assessed feasibility. Higher-quality releases, with fewer QA rejections and fewer bugs reaching production. Documented architectural decisions, validated with our Principal Technical Architect and consistent across the platform. A clear and prioritized technical debt roadmap, agreed upon with Product. Your Responsibilities Team Development and Technical Mentorship Coach each engineer in the squad, understand their current capabilities and build a concrete development path with them. Use pair programming and collaborative design to work through difficult problems instead of solving everything yourself. Provide continuous technical feedback and use code reviews as learning opportunities—explaining the reasoning behind each recommendation. Deliberately distribute challenging assignments so the entire team grows and knowledge does not become concentrated in one person. Identify knowledge gaps and address them through coaching, documentation or training. Lead the technical onboarding of new squad members. Technical Oversight and Delivery Maintain real visibility into the technical progress of each initiative and identify risks before they become delays. Remove technical blockers and remain available for the decisions that affect the team’s daily work. Ensure estimates are dependable and committed scope is realistic and sustainable. Agree with QA on acceptance criteria and testing strategies for each release. Technical Definition and Validation Act as Product’s primary technical counterpart: participate in refinement, assess feasibility, estimate effort, propose alternatives and clearly explain trade-offs. Translate business needs into concrete technical definitions, documenting scope and risks before development begins. Validate technical designs with the Principal Technical Architect and ensure alignment with company standards and architecture. Escalate decisions that affect multiple products or the broader platform rather than solving them locally. Coordinate with the technical leaders of our other product lines, PLD and PLDx, to maintain consistency across the platform. Product Architecture and Execution Take ownership of the architecture of our Chile product across backend and frontend, including structure, patterns, modularity and documentation. Write code in the most critical or technically risky areas. This is a hands-on role. Document architectural decisions, runbooks and squad-level engineering standards. Promote the effective use of AI throughout the development lifecycle—including coding assistants, test generation and automated pull request reviews—and help the team transition toward spec-driven development workflows. What We Are Looking ForMust-Have Experience 5+ years of software development experience, including previous experience leading an engineering team or squad, formally or informally. A demonstrated ability to develop other engineers through mentorship, technical feedback and collaborative design. We will want to hear who you helped grow and how. The ability to work with Product as an equal counterpart: refining requirements, estimating effort, negotiating scope and defending technical positions with clear reasoning. Strong backend experience with TypeScript and either NestJS or LoopBack. Frontend experience with Vue 2, which is used in our current product, and willingness to work with React in new initiatives. Experience with MySQL and MongoDB, including data modeling and query optimization. Hands-on experience with Jest, unit testing and integration testing. Strong Git practices, including Gitflow and team-based code reviews. Working knowledge of AWS services such as S3, Lambda, API Gateway and RDS, as well as GitLab CI/CD. Sound judgment when making decisions with incomplete information, including the ability to define what should not be built. Clear communication with Product, QA and Design in Spanish, working with distributed teams. Availability to work from our Santiago office at least three days per week. Nice to Have Experience in SaaS, fintech, RegTech or other regulated environments. Experience with Docker, functional Python knowledge or server-side rendering with Vue. Practical, demonstrable use of AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code or similar. A degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from PUC, Universidad de Chile, USM, Universidad de los Andes or another strong institution. Equivalent technical experience is equally welcome. How You Will Work You will report directly to the CTO. Your day-to-day work will combine three areas: leading the engineering squad, partnering with Product and validating technical decisions with the Principal Technical Architect. You will have the autonomy to propose meaningful changes—and clear accountability for the team’s development, the quality of technical definitions and the long-term health of the product. Interview Process Initial conversation with the CTO. Technical interview with the Principal Technical Architect. Practical technical case based on real challenges faced by the squad. Culture and team conversation with members of Regcheq. Location and Benefits Santiago, Chile. Hybrid working model with at least three days per week in the office. Supplemental health insurance. Five additional vacation days per year after completing your first year, subject to our non-cumulative policy. If you want to build technology that solves complex, business-critical problems—and believe that strong engineering leadership means making both the product and the people around you better—we would like to meet you.
