Associate Vice President of Finance and

The Associate Vice President of Finance and Administration will report to the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and will be responsible for providing leadership and active oversight of the day to day operations of various financial and business functions for the university. The position will develop and implement financial and business policies and procedures, lead teams to provide services to the university community, implement new systems and processes, and ensure the university remains compliant with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

**Responsibilities**:
Provide leadership and oversight of several departments, functions and staff in key areas:
**Financial planning and analysis**:

- Take ownership of the institutional budget and forecasting processes
- Develop short and long-range forecasting models for profit and loss/statement of activities, balance sheet/statement of financial position, CAPEX, and cash flow
- Develop methods to analysis and report on variances and trends in financial and business data
- Build proformas for new institutional initiatives and projects
- Continually enhance management reporting, dashboards, and impactful metrics for greater financial visibility and accountability
- Write clear and accurate narratives to accompany all budgets, forecasts and financial reports
- Buildout and leverage existing technology and tools to maximize results

**Treasury, investments, and debt management**:

- Manage the liquidity of the university and monitor cash concentrations in various accounts
- Develop timely and deep cash flow modeling
- Monitor service levels and develop relationships with existing and future banking vendors
- Monitor and advise on institutional investments and holdings including endowment, real estate, and other assets
- Track lines of credit and other debt facilities so that the institution is maximizing capacity and market trends
- Monitor and ensure the university’s compliance with all debt covenants and governmental agency requirements
- Lead reporting requirements and relationship building with credit agencies
- Develop reports, dashboards, impactful metrics, and narratives that support these areas

**Student financial services**:

- Ensure students are provided the best service possible on their accounts, 3rd party billing, payment plans and refunds
- Monitor department services and offerings for continuous improvement
- Review refund exceptions and various collection actions
- Develop robust management reporting and metrics for student accounts and department performance
- Ensure compliance with Title IV and all applicable governmental agency requirements

**Additional Responsibilities**:

- Work collaboratively and develop a strong working relationship with the Controller and team on joint projects, annual audit, and day to day operations.
- Develop and monitor internal controls for improve compliance and fraud prevention to safeguard institutional assets.
- Respond to a wide variety of special projects and reporting requests with complete, accurate, and timely results.
- Articulate complex accounting and finance information through effective written and oral communications that can be understood by varying audiences.
- Develop effective tools and training opportunities for various constituencies on policies, procedures and financial management operations.
- Take ownership of various Workday Financial Management system modules to ensure the integrity of financial data, business processes, security, maintenance and implementations.
- Support the CFO with the board of trustees’ projects and meeting preparations, support the investment and finance committees and directed and service a committee notetaker as needed.
- Maintain professional standards and affiliations for the department to keep current in trends, regulations, and changes the accounting and finance profession.
- Create a positive working environment for team members that encourages staff to provide the highest quality of service and support to all internal and external customers.
- Provide staff members timely training, coaching and evaluations to ensure effective performance.
- Advise and support the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer on special projects, operations and all accounting and business matters.
- Remain flexible and open to change, taking on new assignments, initiative, and departments as needed to support the on-going development and growth of the institution.

**Education**:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration required, Master’s degree in Business Administration preferred

**Requirements**:

- Minimum 10 years finance or accounting experience
- Minimum 5 years directly related experience overseeing accounting or finance operations, including staff management
- Solid understanding of GAAP, fund accounting, internal controls, and governmental reporting requirements
