Job Summary

IVY TECH COMMUNITY COLLEGE seeks a qualified faculty member to teach life and physical sciences courses. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and a strong commitment to student success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instruction:
    • Teach assigned life and physical sciences courses using a variety of instructional methods and technologies.
    • Develop and maintain course materials, including curriculum and assessments, to ensure student learning and program outcomes.
    • Manage student records, attendance, and grades, maintaining a classroom environment conducive to student learning and safety.
    • Facilitate student achievement of expected program learning outcomes.
    • Use learning management systems to facilitate teaching, learning, assessment, and communication.
  • Retention and Student Success:
    • Provide academic-related coaching and monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.
    • Monitor and document student performance, providing necessary interventions, including communication with students, tutoring, and referrals to appropriate college resources.
    • Maintain posted office hours and student engagement hours, promoting student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs.
  • Professional Development:
    • Participate in professional development activities to advance instructional and technical skills, as well as current knowledge within the field of study.
    • Engage in scholarly activities related to the discipline, fulfilling annual performance plans and certification requirements.
  • Community Relations and Business Outreach:
    • Participate in community service activities to advance college relationships within its service area.
    • Develop community/industry/business contacts to promote college relationships within the service area.

Requirements

A qualified faculty member in the physical sciences meets the discipline standard through one of two routes:

  • Possesses an earned master's or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in a physical science discipline.
  • Possesses an earned master's or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in any field with 18 graduate semester hours in physical sciences or related courses.

Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and conduct all activities with an appreciation, respect, and promotion of diversity of people, styles, and views.
