We are seeking two PhD research fellows to join our team at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography at Universitetet i Oslo. The successful candidates will be part of the ERC Advanced Grant-funded research project UNRULY – Unruly entanglements of sociomaterial change, knowledge and power in energy frontiers.
Project OverviewThe UNRULY project aims to understand uncertainty related to hydropower projects in the face of climate change. We will explore how entangled social, political, and environmental processes shape change, and how existing research methods have not kept pace with social science theoretical developments.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct independent research in human geography, focusing on methodological development and a Nepali case study.
- Work closely with the research team to advance the aims of the UNRULY project.
- Participate in the Faculty of Social Sciences' organized research education programme.
- Complete a doctorate in human geography.
- Master's degree in geography, anthropology, science and technology studies (STS), (socio)environmental systems analysis, environmental studies, or cognate disciplines.
- Outstanding written and oral proficiency in English.
- Personal suitability and motivation for the project.
- Candidates for the Nepal fellowship should have some experience in Nepal.
- Candidates for the methodological fellowship should show methodological competence.
- The quality and relevance of the project proposal.
- Methodological skills in qualitative and quantitative methods, including participatory, anti-colonial, and feminist methods.
- Interdisciplinary conceptual and methodological frameworks.
- The applicant's ability to contribute to the aims of the UNRULY project.
- Salary NOK 532,200 – 575,400 per annum depending on qualifications in a position as PhD Research fellow (position code 1017).
