Senior Flight Software Engineer

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Flight Dynamics Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing strategic technical support to the U.S. Air Force's hypersonic programs.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide technical expertise to help our sponsors understand the challenges and opportunities in hypersonic systems.
- Contribute to the development of long-term strategy for modeling and simulation of hypersonic activities.
- Assess the capabilities of performer-generated GN&C software and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Present technical findings to decision makers through briefings and reports.
- Serve as a liaison between the sponsor's offices and technical teams to facilitate cross-organizational collaboration.
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- At least seven years of experience in an engineering discipline, such as software, modeling and simulation, aerodynamics, flight dynamics, flight guidance, navigation, and control, propulsion or test and evaluation.
- Experience with tactical flight software and proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, and/or C++.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to attend meetings or tests at other government and contractor sites.
- Active Secret security clearance and ability to obtain a Top Secret level clearance.
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- At least ten years of experience in a missile engineering discipline.
- Broad exposure to other areas of missile systems, such as aerodynamics, aero-thermal, mechanical, RF seekers/sensors, and operations analysis.
- Experience working with and developing 6DOF modeling and simulation tools related to flight dynamics.
- Experience designing and testing missiles and related subsystems.
- Experience with hypersonic systems.
