Your Role

As a Technology Solutions Architect, you will collaborate closely with case team members to evaluate and mentor our clients' IT teams, establish IT strategies, design architectural solutions, and leverage your technical expertise and understanding of business contexts. As you gain experience, you will take ownership of delivering specific project components and assist in developing technical concepts for those components. Within our BCG Platinion consulting team, you will engage with a range of technology topics, applying your architectural consulting skills to strategic technology challenges. You will benefit from a comprehensive training curriculum (the same program as all BCG consultants), in addition to technology-specific training and mentorship to enhance your skills.

Key Responsibilities

Development & Design

  • Evaluating intricate IT application landscapes
  • Assessing the current state and optimizing IT architectures
  • Identifying significant technology decisions confronting a client
  • Communicating the significance of architectural building blocks
  • Creating roadmaps and developing business cases

Control & Management

  • Reviewing vendor proposals and ongoing technical projects
  • Managing IT projects and ensuring quality assurance
  • Enhancing application development processes

Community Building

  • Guiding internal colleagues on essential technical concepts and frameworks
  • Advising fellow architects in your areas of expertise
  • Building a network within the BCG technical community and leveraging it for our clients

Qualifications

  • 4 to 6 years of experience in software development, technical project management, digital delivery, or technology consulting
  • Ability to introduce unique technological perspectives from outside the consulting sector into BCG's typical engagements, requiring:
    • Consulting experience
    • A strategic mindset (hypothesis-driven, 80:20 mindset, iterative approach, proactive stance)
    • Self-management skills
  • Leadership potential to revolutionize the consulting industry, particularly in collaboration with designers, engineers, and product owners
  • Familiarity with common development methodologies and tools, including DevOps practices and Continuous Improvement
  • Ability to balance dogmatism and pragmatism to guide decision-making, articulating trade-offs and driving impactful technology decisions on topics such as IaaS/PaaS providers, container orchestration, service mesh, API gateways, and commercial versus open-source software.
  • Strategies for managing architectural debt, governance, and evolution in practice
  • Understanding of microservices topologies, including operational concerns such as resiliency, observability, discovery, routing, and security
  • Experience leading legacy integration and remediation efforts
  • Deep knowledge of various integration patterns and best practices, including events and synchronous versus asynchronous communication
  • A university degree with above-average academic performance in a mathematical-scientific field, information technology, or business administration
