Senior Evaluation Geologist

**Internal Job Description**:
Reporting to the Exploration Manager - Chile and matrixed to the Senior Technical Specialist - Evaluations, the **Senior Evaluation Geologist** will work in a Greenfield discovery role, and will be responsible for capturing high quality greenfield projects within Chile, identifying, analysing and interacting with third party agreements, acquisitions and investment opportunities. In addition, this role will work closely with experts in various related disciplines and the project generation geology team to enhance Teck's discovery portfolio in the region. Demonstrated ability to evaluate and integrate third party technical and commercial data sets, coordinate resources, assess risks and make conclusive recommendations will be an asset. Specific exploration experience and expertise in porphyry copper systems is required, and experience in a variety of technical systems including skarn, epithermal, IOCG and others is desirable;

This position will be based in Santiago de Chile with working days from Monday to Friday and field trips to national and international territory.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Be a fearless safety leader, comply with and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures;
- Lead the evaluation and acquisition of opportunities from a variety of sources (e.g. third party introductions, project generation activities) at all stages of the exploration value chain in Chile, providing support for selected evaluations elsewhere in South America;
- Gather, integrate, interpret and evaluate geoscience and commercial datasets to formulate acquisition recommendations to the Exploration management team;
- Collaborate with the Commercial and Evaluations Director, the Regional Chief Geoscientist for the Americas and other geoscience teams to align project generation and opportunity identification and capture;
- Collaborate with project generation teams to identify new discovery opportunities for management consideration;
- Keep up to date with technical research on relevant geoscience and mineral deposit studies, and integrate key learnings into project evaluations;
- Maintain a broad national network of contacts in industry, government and academia to obtain technical and commercial intelligence to help capture new opportunities in a timely manner;
- To foster a culture of teamwork and innovation among all members and partners, and to encourage cooperation and open communication;
- Contribute to the technical development of the internal team through formal and informal communication, training and knowledge sharing;
- Work proactively and collaboratively with Social Responsibility and Environmental Officers to ensure that assessed projects have a social and environmental context study developed, which provides an indication of the time and resources required to obtain project permits for the planned programme of work;
- Promote and embed the company's commitment to health and safety, sustainability and the environment, and ensure that Teck's standards are met in the region;

**Requirements**:

- At least 12 years' experience in geosciences, including significant experience in project generation.
- A university degree in geosciences or a related field is required. A postgraduate degree related to the position (MSc or PhD) is desirable;
- Demonstrated track record of project evaluations from early to development stages, including a solid understanding of resource assessment, economic modelling and commercial concepts;
- Extensive experience working in porphyry copper environments, with additional exposure to shale, epithermal and IOCG systems.
- Knowledge of the geology of Chile and South America is desirable;
- Advanced command of English and Spanish (writing and oral expression).
- Willingness to travel within the region as required;
- High understanding of business priorities, visualising potential future opportunities, anticipation of risks;
- Demonstrable experience leading and collaborating effectively with teams and driving change;
