This position is located in the ECLAC Statistics Division. The Senior Statistics Assistant reports to the Chief of Economic Statistics Unit.

**Responsibilities**:
Within delegated authority, Statistical Assistants will be responsible for the following duties:

- Collects, evaluates, processes, and analyzes statistical data from a variety of sources and international data bases (COMTRADE, International Organizations, Specialized Agencies, country official statistics), in the area of external sector, in particular Balance of Payments, foreign trade and international price statistics.
- Processes, classifies and ensures internal consistency of data; reconciles discrepancies in data series using international classifications (HS, SITC, BEC, ISIC, SDMX, etc) and manuals and international guidelines (Balance of Payments and International Trade Statistics Manuals).
- Builds special data sets for specific research needs or for reports.
- Prepares charts, graphs and other outputs for reporting and presentation of various data in particular for ECLAC flagships and the ECLAC Statistical Yearbook.
- Maintains relevant computerized databases.
- Responds to internal/external requests on questions related to specific programme(s).
- Assists in liaising with United Nations system organizations to obtain necessary statistical and other relevant information.
- Prepares data sets upon request, responds to queries/requests and maintains/updates web pages.
- Supervises and guides other general service staff in the function, as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification
Supplemental technical or university courses in a field of statistics, economy or other related disciplines is desirable.

Work Experience
A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional experience in statistics, finance, accounting or related area is required.

Experience in collecting and researching data across various areas of economic statistics or related areas is required.

One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Spanish is a working language of ECLAC. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; and fluency of Spanish is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

NOTE: ‘Fluency’’ equals a rating of ‘’fluent’’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand).
