**Responsibilities**:
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background; the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. The internship will specifically support the Principle 10 Observatory on access rights to information, participation and justice in environmental matters in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Observatory is a clearinghouse to strengthen capacity-building and cooperation in the framework of the Escazú Agreement regional process.
Daily duties include:
- Assisting in management, development and updating the Observatory
- Carrying out extensive research on environmental laws, regulations, plans, programmes and policies of the 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean
- Collecting and documenting data, producing and reviewing content for the Observatory including summaries, synthesis notes and other documents for public use
- Analyzing current trends and situation analysis in specific countries/sectors and layout of outputs in different formats
- Staying abreast of Principle 10-related developments in the region through media, academia, official documentations and other sources
- Perform other related duties, as required.

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
(b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Work Experience
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of English is required. Fluency in Spanish is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language would be an asset.
NOTE: “Fluency” equals a rating of ''fluent'' in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and ¨knowledge of¨ equals a rating of ''confident'' in two of the four areas.
