Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

**Main purpose of job**:
We are recruiting for an intern to join the British Embassy’s Communications team. The intern would take up an engaging and rewarding role helping to communicate the British Embassy’s priorities as we communicate and connect with Chilean audiences through high-impact communications and as the UK and Chile celebrate 200 years of UK-Chile bilateral relations. The intern will assist in the creation and co-ordination of engaging social media content, contribute to campaign planning and undertake audience research with the aim of strengthening the embassy’s communications as well as enhancing the profile of the UK.

**Roles and responsibilities**:
The job holder will:

- Provide support to the implementation of the embassy’s communications strategy for our campaign celebrating 200 years of UK-Chile bilateral consular relations, designing creative digital assets as well as supporting the delivery of high-level visits and events. Assist with the development of high quality, cross-platform digital content (video / imagery; social media content; (info)graphic design; digital asset management; writing and editing) communicating the embassy’s priorities and impact to key external audiences.
- Contribute to the creation of engaging and shareable content to be used across social media and other digital channels, contributing to content calendars for the embassy’s social media properties.
- Help identify new opportunities to reach existing and new audiences through both social and traditional media.
- Provide general communications and administrative support to the Communications team, updating our press database and helping with our stakeholder mapping efforts.itor and analyse online conversations around priority and emerging issues for the UK government, identifying opportunities to shape these conversations.
- Support the embassy’s internal communications strategy, designing and curating our internal digital communications, as well as analysing possible other communications channels for our internal audiences.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

**Essential on arrival**:

- The intern must be enrolled in a university/college programme such as Communications, Graphic Design, Political Science or related areas that will allow them to participate in an internship / “práctica profesional”.
- The individual must have a passion for communications, with a keen interest in digital communications.
- Be proactive and able to learn quickly
- Proficiency or some experience in Social Media tools
- Be a team player

**Language requirements**:
Language: English and Spanish

Level of language required: Fluent Spanish. Ideally business level in both written and spoken English.

Must have the legal status to live and work in Chile

**Working hours**

The intern will work part-time during the internship and be required to work 20 hours a week with flexible working available to fulfil that commitment.

The Embassy working hours are 09:00-1730 Mon-Thurs and 0900-1300 on Friday.

**Learning and development opportunities**

The intern will have the opportunity to take part in the embassy’s learning and development activities and will agree a clear L&D plan for their internship.

The intern will have the (recommended) option of taking the International Communication Skills Training, delivered by the FCDO’s Communication and Engagement Directorate.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount."
