- About the Role- The Practice Lead Global Tailings Americas is responsible for providing governance, technical assurance and thought leadership to BHP’s American tailings storage facilities to support improvement of current performance and standardization according to best industry practices, advising tailings operations to safely manage risks throughout the TSF lifecycle, improved performance during operations and safe closure.- This critical leadership position is responsible for:
- Technical assurance of tailings 2-year budgets and LoA plans
- Engages with Operations across the Minerals Americas to ensure timely collection of data and information for industry conformance, SusCo and Insurance reporting and KRI update.
- Provides thought leadership to BHP senior Leaders on tailings strategies, challenges and recommends plans to address them.
- Coaching, development, and leadership of a high performing technical team.
- Identifies and implements systems that supports the capability development of tailings professionals globally.
- Provides continuous improvement to internal standards and guidance documents and ensure its spread and implementation across BHP.
- Maintains and builds a global tailings working group to connect BHP’s tailings discipline globally, share thinking and ideas and keep the community abreast of emerging trends and Innovation.
- Provides technical governance across BHP’s major projects through IPR’s and EPR’s, and oversight of governance instances and roles like ITRB, EoR and AE’s.
- Provides technical support to all assets in the need of, to maintain a solid tailings management system.
- Provides technical and governance support to NOJVs through participation on 2nd line assurance instances like Tailings/geotechnical Committees, ITRBs and IPRs.
- Gives input into the search for new and innovative solution on tailings management through the participation on tailings innovation consortiums and technological agreements with peers, other mining companies and OEMs.
- About You- Civil, Geotechnical Engineering or Geology Degree.
- Master of Science or Master Engineering Degree in Mining, Civil or related Geoscience.
- Professional Accreditation or on pathway to obtain Professional Accreditation
- 15+ Years plus industry experience in tailings engineering, covering operations, technical and projects on a variety of technics, different technologies and multiple commodities and jurisdictions (desire).
- Experience with coordinating and working in a multi-disciplinary working environment.
- Experience with design, operating, maintaining and/or managing tailings facilities.
- Demonstrated experience in reducing material risk profile in the business.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, develop and communicate strategic plans
