Overview NHS Fife is seeking a motivated and skilled Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our dynamic and forward-thinking Cellular Pathology team. Applications are welcome from HCPC registered Trainee Biomedical Scientists who are working towards or willing to work towards the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology. Trainees will follow an in-house training programme while performing technical diagnostic work to complete the Specialist portfolio within 2/3 years. Trainees will be paid on band 5 and move to band 6 on completion of the portfolio. Responsibilities Play a key role in the delivery of a high-quality diagnostic service, contributing to the processing and analysis of histological specimens. Perform a wide range of specialist diagnostic techniques including specimen dissection, embedding, microtomy, immunohistochemistry and special stains. Contribute to quality assurance processes, UKAS compliance, and support training/supervision of staff and trainees. Demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills with a commitment to continuous professional development and high standards of patient care. Qualifications and Requirements HCPC registration (or training toward the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology). Willingness to undertake in-house training and develop through the Specialist Portfolio within 2/3 years. Ability to contribute to quality assurance and training activities; commitment to patient care and professional development. Notes on employment and working hours From 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part-time hours will be pro-rata with a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay is not affected. Work eligibility To work in the United Kingdom, applicants must have the legal permission to work in the country, granted by the UK Visas and Immigration Service. NHS Scotland Boards will check entitlement to work as part of pre-employment checks.
