Biomedical Scientist Join to apply for the Biomedical Scientist role at NHS Ayrshire & Arran. Applicants who do not meet the essential criteria will be considered under the Annex 21 training programme, where during training they will be paid 75% of the top of Band 6; upon completion they will move to Band 6 scale. Role Overview Process a broad range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in Haematology/Blood Transfusion using a range of scientific measurements and technical procedures on patient samples. Provide advice to clinicians and other healthcare staff as to appropriateness of tests and time‑scales. Responsible for own work and uses specialist training to operate complex equipment and solve problems. Acts as a mentor to less experienced Biomedical Scientists and participates in training/supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants. Essential Qualifications State HCPC registration with the Health Professions Council is mandatory. BSc honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent for HCPC registration. Formal evidence of specialist knowledge of a range of discipline‑specific procedures. Evidence of continuing professional development, e.g., specialist portfolio, attendance at specialist courses, training on new instrumentation, reflective practice. Additional Desirable Qualifications Actively undertaking Continuing Professional Development. Specialist Diploma in Haematology, Blood Transfusion, Clinical Chemistry, or Blood Science or evidence of working towards completion. Previous experience of working as a Biomedical Scientist in an NHS Clinical Laboratory environment. Team worker. Good communication skills. Good organisational skills.
