We are looking for a Consultant Urologist to join our department, currently comprising nine consultants with future expansion planned. Our well‑established Urology Unit is part of the third largest Health Board in Scotland and serves a large population area. Supporting you is 24‑hour senior middle grade cover and junior middle grade cover, including West of Scotland Training Rotation Surgical Registrars. This role is ideal for newly trained consultants or experienced consultants seeking a new challenge. Our consultants deliver a comprehensive range of Urological sub‑specialist services, including Endo‑Urology, Upper Tract Laparoscopy, Pelvic Oncology and General Urology. We have recently introduced Robotic Pelvic Surgery using the Da Vinci Robotic system at University Hospital Hairmyres and are investing further in high‑energy lasers. The successful candidate will lead the Benign Prostate Hypertrophy (BPH) service, developing a bespoke service for patients in Lanarkshire. You will be encouraged to redesign the entire pathway from vetting, outpatient review to surgical treatment, aligning with GIRFT and BAUS principles. A business case for expanded BPH modalities, including HOLEP and Rezum, is in progress (November 2025). This service will be based in the Urology Hub, University Hospital Monklands (UHM). Your role will support the transition planning for the new Monklanks Hospital (MRP). The job will involve 3 acute sites – University Hospital Monklands, Wishaw and Hairmyres – where outpatient nursing, medical and diagnostic sessions occur, with on‑call and inpatient operating based primarily at UHM and occasionally at the other sites. The post is offered as a full‑time position (10 PA, including up to 2 non‑DCC). We will consider applicants seeking less than full‑time. If full‑time, up to 2 EPA’s may be available to undertake additional outpatient and/or procedure sessions or management activity. Proposals for additional SPA time from applicants are encouraged. The Board is supportive of applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well‑developed ideas for improving services, demonstrating commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human‑factors training), medical education, research & development, appraising, and other relevant areas.
