Newmont Peru SRL was founded in 1983 as an exploration mining company whose main objective is obtain new gold reserves.

Minera Yanacoca SRL start their operations in 1992 in Cajamarca City partnership with Buenaventura, is the largest gold mine in South America.

About this role

Reporting to the Senior Director – Project Engineering, the Manager for Mechanical/Piping Engineering is responsible for ensuring that Major and Mega Projects within Newmont advance in accordance with best practice, appropriate technical rigor and sound application of innovation with respect to mechanical and piping engineering to maximize stakeholder value.

Maximizes project value across the portfolio by ensuring that mechanical and piping engineering designs are developed considering safety through design, energy and water efficiency and standardization.

Works with project teams and internal stakeholders to communicate and implement lessons learned and standardization opportunities across projects

Supports project teams with mechanical/piping designs, checks and reviews

Acts as liaison with internal stakeholders such as: VA team, SME team, Asset Management team, Full Potential team, Joint venture technical teams, project control/reporting team and Investment Committee members

In this role you will

Supports projects in all stages of execution as well as M&A activities, operations, regional project teams and closure. May take direct role in studies and projects as business needs arise.

Develops standards, processes, systems and procedures to meet Newmont global project requirements. Audits and confirms Projects are adhering to Newmont's Project Engineering Guidance, or variance requests have been approved

Manages, supports and confirms completion of Newmont Stage Gate requirements for Stage deliverables, Gate peer reviews, application of opportunity and risk assessment practices, and use of Value Improving practices. Supports ongoing development and improvement of the Stage Gate Process.

Provides subject matter expertise (SME) in mechanical/piping engineering in support of capital projects across all stages, as well as operations and closure.

Leads, manages and/or supports technical and peer reviews (including risk and hazard reviews) for mechanical/piping engineering, and confirms reviews are applied consistently across Newmont projects

Fosters open collaboration between project teams and stakeholders, corporate SMEs, External SMEs,EPCM teams, and operations to deliver value across the project lifecycle

Your training, skills and experience checklist

Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field as a minimum requirement, such as Mechanical Engineering or Process Engineering.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGBC or a similar licensing body.
  • Post-Graduate degree in engineering or business would be an asset.

Experience:

  • 15+ years' related experience in mechanical/piping engineering.
  • Engineering design for medium to large projects working for engineering services company type experience is preferred.
  • Mining, construction, utilities or other heavy industry experience is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and demonstrated leadership skills in managing technical people and advanced projects.
  • Familiarity with process engineering workflows including design criteria, process flow diagrams, P&ID drawings, and capital and operating cost estimates.
  • Strong problem-solving and statistical analysis capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical results in a logical, presentable manner effectively.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage a complex project with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven capacity to produce results through influence and persuasion.
  • Strong computer skills in basic programs (i.e. Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word) required
Working Conditions and location

Where you will be located

The position is located at the EPCM Office in Santiago de Chile, and requires 50% of time travel to different sites: Lima and Cajamarca (Peru); Denver and Houston (USA); Vadodara, Gujarat, India, and Toronto (Canada) on a scheduled basis and as required by the EPCM Manager.
