Duties and Responsibilities

The Resident Coordinator System encompasses all organizations of the United Nations that have operational activities in the country. As the designated Representative of the UN Secretary-General and leader of the UN Country Team (UNCT), the UN Resident Coordinator (UNRC), leads the UN Country Team in Chile, including all the UN entities present in Chile, and represents the UN Secretary General to the Government of Chile. The purpose of the Resident Coordinator system (RC system) is to bring together the different UN agencies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational activities at the country level, helping the UN to be a more relevant and reliable partner for governments. The UN Resident Coordinators Office (RCO) supports the roles and functions of the UN Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team. The RCO provides inter-agency coordination support to the UN Country Team (UNCT) and its various inter-agency working mechanisms, including theme groups. Key functions of the RCO include strategic analysis, planning and positioning of the Country Team; preparation and monitoring of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF); support to joint UN programming and operations management; policy guidance; joint advocacy and communications, in order to enhance UN coherence and improve overall program impact of the UN System in Chile. The RCO is looking for a motivated intern to join the team on a short-term basis and contribute to its crucial mandate of enhancing the coherence of the UN System in Santiago. The internship will provide the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to learn about how the UN system operates at the country level. Among others, the intern will: learn about the functions and roles of a wide range of UN agencies; gain insight into the country programming process of the UN; and become familiar with how the UN interacts with government counterparts. The UN Resident Coordinators Office (RCO) internship is for 3 to 6 months. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Under the Supervision of the Head of the RCO, and in close collaboration with RCO colleagues, the Partnerships Intern will: - Support the creation and maintenance of partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders including donors, Government, Private sector and NGOs among others. This includes identifying key partners and their roles, contributions, and areas of collaboration. - Support to the Resident Coordinator (RC) and the UNCT in identifying risks and opportunities related to specific partnerships, and suggests mitigation measures as relevant; - Assist in planning and facilitating liaison and coordination with UN entities at country, regional and HQ levels to attract partners that align with the UN's objectives in Chile. both traditional and non-traditional. - Support the RCO in following up the work of the Programme Management Team (PMT) including efforts for greater collaboration and coordination at field level; - Support the development of a private sector engagement strategy by among other things carrying out mapping of private sector companies as well as supporting with contacts and engagement plan. - Use public information and gather intel to map, synthesize and interpret current and future potential for private and institutional engagement. This include supporting the implementation of a draft private sector engagement strategy that includes a detailed mapping of companies, key contacts, and an engagement plan. - Support UNCT efforts to enhance climate action in Chile by, among other things, strengthening engagement and collaboration with relevant stakeholders; - Produce minutes, talking points, speeches, briefs, and reports as relevant from the intern’s area of responsibility; and - Support any other tasks as required.




Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent Be computer literate in standard software applications. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred area of studies: International development studies, international relations, social sciences, political science, law, economics, management, or other relevant fields. Good writing and communication skills: ability to draft clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form. Experience with other UN agencies, international organisations and/or non-governmental organisations would be considered an asset. - Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. - For this internship, work experience or volunteer experience in international organizations is highly desirable.




Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable.
