Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs

We are looking for a Study Lead to support our growing portfolio of projects in South America focusing on effective project management and stakeholder engagement. Initially as part of our New Growth portfolio, you will be accountable for initiating and delivering studies safely, on time and within budget. This includes identifying and evaluating options, challenging assumptions, mitigating risks, and delivering on opportunities.

As we look to grow our presence in South America, we have an opportunity available for a high achieving project professional or operations professionals with exposure to projects in Santiago, Chile.

Reporting initially to the General Manager, New Growth and working as part of a dynamic and exciting team, you will be:

Act as a liaison between the business in South America and potential new projects, serving as the initial point of contact Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop Study Execution Plans and related deliverables Take ownership of the study budget, schedule, and progress, ensuring alignment with objectives and plans Coordinate with Rio Tinto Projects to facilitate the execution of deliverables Implement robust study management practices to optimize decision-making, record-keeping, project controls, and team communications Work closely with business units and exploration teams on technical, permitting, and approvals-related matters Manage internal governance and approvals processes to progress the study through review and study stage gates Engage with external stakeholders to negotiate project criteria and foster mutually beneficial outcomes Foster the performance and development of the study team in alignment with Rio Tinto’s company values Provide internal reviews of other projects, contributing to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement efforts across projects and studies

What you’ll bring

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team Proven leadership experience with effective influencing and negotiation skills Proven study management or project management ability, including some from the mining/minerals processing industry Risk management, commercial awareness, business analysis & reporting, financial, and operational/business knowledge Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including strong Spanish and English language skills Strong experience and knowledge of the different study stages An ability to understand technical and stakeholder issues and solutions outside of your field of expertise A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management, Processing, Geoscience, Environmental Science, Law, Business Analysis, or other relevant discipline You will also be passionate about delivering pragmatic, optimised solutions and have a natural curiosity, drive for results and appetite for constructive challenge and risk based creative thinking
