**About the Role**:
This role directly supports and provides legal advice to BHP’s Minerals Americas business, focused on Pampa Norte Assets (Spence and Cerro Colorado), as assigned by the Head of Legal - Assets. In fulfilling its functions, this role manages and controls material legal risks and support clients on strategic advice for the relevant Assets and have a sit in the Pampa Norte Leadership Team.

This role manages external law firms. The role reports to the Head of Legal - Assets, Minerals Americas and is based in Santiago, Chile.

**Responsibilities**:

- Ensure appropriate depth of experience and knowledge for Legal support to BHP’s Minerals Americas business, focusing mainly in Pampa Norte’s Assets.
- Provide legal and strategic advice to the business on a variety of issues, including, but not limited to mining, environmental, competition, compliance, contractual and corporate issues.
- Sit in the Pampa Norte Leadership Team.
- Negotiate and draft all kind of contracts as required by the BHP’s Minerals Americas business.
- Work on legal projects as assigned by the Head of Legal - Assets Minerals Americas.
- Manage outside legal counsel engagements to ensure productive and cost-effective representation.
- Actively represent Legal in different forums within the company, attending meetings as appropriate.
- Participate in material risk assessments and verification.
- Foster trusted advisor relationship with the business and critical stakeholders.
- Execute the analysis and improvement activities as required by the Head of Legal - Assets Minerals Americas.
- Own the implementation of the Legal governance requirements for areas of accountability.
- Advise the Vice President, Head of Legal - Assets and management representatives on all significant matters, assist in the overall provision of legal services to BHP, and perform such other job-related duties and functions as requested by the Head of Legal - Assets Minerals Americas.
- Manage legal budget allocated for the functions under the relevant scope.
- Travel Chile and internationally, as necessary, to progress open matters.

**About You**:

- Experience: Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience as attorney in law firms or corporate legal department as in-house. Experience in the mining or natural resources industries would be a plus. Proven knowledge of environmental law is a must. Experience supervising and managing external attorneys. Experience managing budget.
- Education: Law Degree or Juris Doctorate.
- License: Valid Chilean practicing certificate.
- Foreign LLM degree is a plus.
- Excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills and the ability to provide concise, plain-English and commercially-oriented advice in a timely manner.
- Excellent workflow management skills and ability to manage and deliver multiple projects and issues with competing deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in small or large multidisciplinary teams, and being comfortable in dealing regularly with senior Business leadership personnel.
- Language skills: fluent in Spanish and English.
