**Position Details**

Position Name: Health Aide (TENS)
Reports to: Works under the direct supervision of the Health Unit & Director of Student
Support Services
Time commitment: Full-time
Depending on student need, with the possibility of renewal or adjustment based on the
clinical progression. The work calendar will be based on school days.

**Position Purpose**
To provide comprehensive care and attention to a patient with physical disabilities, ensuring their
physical, emotional, and health well-being within the academic setting throughout all stages of the
condition. The person will be responsible for providing direct assistance with daily activities, feeding,
mobility support, assistance and support in bathroom use and assessment of prescribed medical
and kinesthetic treatments, always maintaining a respectful, empathetic, and proactive attitude.

**Qualifications and Experiences**
- **Education**: Accredited degree as TENS or person with experience taking care of patients
- **Experience**: Preferably with experience in caring for patients with neuromuscular diseases

or physical disabilities. Experience in managing patients with muscular degeneration is
highly valued.
- English spoken

**Skills** **Technical Skills**:

- Knowledge in caring for patients with limited mobility
- Assistance with hygiene for patients with limited mobility.
- Assistance with bathroom use for patients with limited mobility.
- Basic knowledge of physical therapy and prevention of pressure ulcers.
- Capacity and willingness of lifting the patient whenever is needed.
- **Interpersonal Skills**:

- High capacity for empathy, patience, and service orientation.
- Excellent communication with the patient and their family members.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team (nurses, therapists, counselors, teachers).
- Strong commitment to long-term care and improving the patient’s quality of life.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
- **Basic Care and Personal Assistance**:

- Support in daily activities such as bathroom use, feeding, and personal hygiene of
- the patient.
- Assist in moving the patient to prevent pressure sores and ensure comfort.
- Collaborate in physical therapy exercises guided by professionals to maintain
- mobility and general well-being.
- **Mobility and Transfers Assistance**:

- Proper use of mobility aids such as wheelchairs, classroom chairs, feeding chairs and

floor cushions.
- Ensure correct positioning of the patient in bed or in a chair to prevent contractures

or deformities.
- **Support and help during physical education classes**:

- Support in the swimming unit, including clothes changing and mobility through the
- aquatic center.
- **Health Monitoring**:

- Report any significant changes in the patient’s condition to parents and the

healthcare team.
- **Emotional Support and Communication**:

- Provide emotional support to both the patient and the family, especially during times
- of stress or decline.
- Facilitate communication between the patient and their surroundings and offer
- companionship during times of emotional need.
- **Maintaining the Environment and Equipment**:

- Ensure the patient’s environment is clean, safe, and orderly, minimizing the risk of

infections or accidents.
- Keep all medical equipment and supplies used in excellent condition.

- Ability to speak and understand English.
- Sensitivity and understanding toward the specific needs of individuals with chronic
- conditions.
- Ability to work in high-stress or crisis situations.
