**Position Summary**

Bechtel is seeking a Layout Designer (SP3D) for the Mining & Metals team, based in Chile. The position will be responsible for developing designs for complete and complex engineering systems, structures and plant arrangements with minimum supervision. Plans and executes the presentation of these in graphic form or in detailed scale models. Works independently on design projects or may direct the technical work of others.

**Responsibilities**

The Layout Designer (SP3D) is principally responsible for:

- Works independently in the preparation of complex designs from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed. Assists in constructing detailed scale models.
- When working in a lead role, assigns tasks to best use the knowledge, experience and capabilities of less experienced designers/drafters assigned.
- Ensures compliance with approved design standards in own work and by those assigned, to provide quality design.
- Reviews and checks calculations, design models, drawings and design documents prepared by assigned designers/drafters for quality, accuracy, neatness, functionality and satisfactory completion.
- Is responsible for the accuracy of bulk material quantity take-offs and material requisitions for materials applicable to the discipline.
- Works with designers in other disciplines to coordinate overall design and technical requirements.
- Develops work plans, budgets, and schedules for basic designer tasks based on input and direction from supervisor in designated discipline.
- Answers questions from client or construction group on design scope within assigned responsibility.
- Provides on-the-job training for personnel within assigned lead responsibility.
- Generates 2D drawings or 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) design models of high complexity with mínimal guidance from others.

- Generates complex 2-D drawings or 3-D CAD design models with mínimal guidance from others.
- Performs design tasks having some degree of complexity.
- Generates 2D drawings or 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) design models of high complexity with mínimal guidance from others.
**Qualifications and Skills ADDENDUM**
**Basic Qualifications**

The Layout Designer (SP3D) shall be knowledgeable and/or experienced in:

- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, AND extensive experience in design and drafting. Demonstrated skill in a lead role or recognized courses in the directing of personnel.
**Additional Qualifications**
- Sound knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, graphic arts, reading of drawings, and reproduction methods used by the discipline.
- Familiarity with relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Skill in reading, interpreting and using related documents and drawings prepared by other project groups.
Knowledge of the methods and procedures used for procurement, takeoffs and control of bulk materials assigned to the discipline.
- Good knowledge of the industry and regulatory standards, design criteria and codes relevant to the discipline.
General knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups associated with the total design effort.
- Skill in directing the technical work of less experienced designers and/or drafters.
