**Duties**:
To provide quality reviews for several phases of wayside signal design projects, from preliminary engineering (concept plans, designer sketches, aspect charts, etc.) to final detailed railroad signaling plans, designed in accordance with AREMA guidance and FRA requirements. Must be knowledgeable and experienced with circuits, hardware, and software utilized on designs for train control. This includes experience with relay logic circuits as well as microprocessors (Electrologix, Microlock, VPI, and other legacy equipment). Should also have understanding of communications-based systems such as CBTC and PTC.
Highway Crossings design experience is also necessary. Must have knowledge of crossing predictor equipment such as XP4, GCP’s, and other legacy equipment.
**Responsibilities**:
- Review with the Project Manager to understand the design criteria, scope of work, standards, and special requirements of each assigned project.
- Check train control circuit drawings for correctness regarding safety critical operations, efficiency, compliance with all requirements, and details.
- Learn and follow established ISO processes in the performance of all checking duties.
- Along with performing design and programming quality control, must also provide mentorship to Designers and Engineers producing those designs.
- Collaborate with other checkers to ensure uniformity of design within each customer’s accounts.
- Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or Computer Science and 7 years signal and communications experience in the railroad industry; or if no degree, 10 years signal and communications experience in the railroad industry
- Must possess a valid driver license
- Strong problem solving skills
- Strong proficiency with Signal & Communications Design practices
- Must be current with all FRA rules and regulations.
