**WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER**:
The role of the Safety and Security Specialist (Risk Preventionist) is to provide day-to-day safety and security expertise, implement safety and security best practices, and maintain safety records for TNC Chile while aligning all the work, processes and procedures with Global Safety Program and local laws. The Valdivian Coastal Reserve is the main focal area for which the Safety and Security Specialist will provide advice, create and execute plans on the safe operations of all projects, and day-to day activities with staff, contractors and partners.
Safety and security expertise will include monitoring security trends in project areas our teams operate, as well as providing advice and training to in-country staff making sure TNC Chile is fulfilling law requests. Additionally, the Safety and Security Specialist will work closely with the Regional Safety and Security Director to help update, maintain and disseminate Country Risk Assessments, Safety and Security Plans and Visitor Guides.
An important part of the responsibility is the incorporation of emergency preparedness planning, security and personnel safety management in all project activities and the strengthening of the technical and managerial capacity of country personnel in matters of security. In the event of a security or security-related incident, this person will liaise directly with the Country Management Team, as well as the Regional Director of Safety and Security.
He/she will represent the Nature Conservancy, TNC, in relevant regional security forums and develop strong professional relationships with other international NGOs and agencies on security related issues. This will also include supporting and ensuring mutual understanding with TNC's key partners and, where necessary, the communities with which we work.
The Security and Protection Specialist is based in either Valdivia or Santiago, Chile and will report to and work closely with the Director of the Business Unit, as well as the Regional Director of Security and Protection LAR and Europe (matrixial report), with whom should review strategic and operational work.

- Some of the responsibilities of the position are:
- Generate the preventive management system in accordance with current legislation.
- Continuously monitor the security and safety situation in Chile and be able to demonstrate a contextual understanding of security in most areas in which we have permanent operations and communicate any risk to the Leadership Team for a decision in how to manage it/communicate it to the team.
- Advise on safety and security and policies and procedures for high-risk field locations, as well as provide technical assistance to TNC partners most at risk.
- Strengthen TNC's risk assessment framework by incorporating security into all program and project planning and leading risk assessments for high profile and/or high risk projects.
- Support the country and project teams with the security and protection budget, the provision of equipment and first aid kits.
- Provide security briefings when needed for new or visiting staff.
- Provide staff with training to become familiar with safety and security procedures.
- Provide staff with additional safety training when necessary.
- Work with the Regional Safety and Security Director to respond to incidents and follow up on incident reports.
- Coordinate with country level security committees, staff and key contacts from other agencies operating in project areas, including partners.
- Monitor security alerts and natural disasters, sharing with key people when necessary.
