**YOUR POSITION WITH TNC**:
The Policy Associate for The Nature Conservancy Chile conducts policy research, designs, implements and coordinates multi-year strategies and plans for public sector engagement and in support of proposals for donor agencies. The Policy Associate reports to the Director of Strategies and new conservation models and should be located in Chile. The Policy Associate should focus on the creation of public policy related to protection of water and wetlands, ecosystem services, climate change and conservation in general.
**The position is for a period of 18 months fixed term contract.**

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:
The Policy Associate is responsible for policy research and strategic communications in support of the TNC Chile team. S/he has a background in policy research, social science and economics with a demonstrated expertise in conservation and environment. S/he understands and applies principles of engaging public sector entities, donors and multilaterals. S/he will be responsible for cultivating public sector interest in TNC’s work and developing analysis, writing policy briefs and supporting proposals to fund policy that fosters the shared conservation priorities in Latin America and in the iconic places. She will provide strategic and targeted research support for the policy director and for campaigns and sectoral initiatives with the country offices and regional teams if needed. S/he involves appropriate partners in the field and in the US, as well as staff in TNC’s Global, Latin America Regional, keeping them apprised of interactions, issues and concerns, and directs questions as appropriate. S/he is capable of representing the policy pathways and summarizing the programs and outcomes of the Shared Conservation Agenda for a diverse audience.
The Policy Associate should focus on the creation of public policy related mainly to protection of water and wetlands, ecosystem services, climate change, carbon market in Chile and conservation in general.

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE**:

- Development of proposal of Public Policy for water and wetlands, ecosystem services, climate change, carbon market in Chile, and conservation in general.
- Conduct policy research and write narratives and analytical documents as well as policy briefs and strategic communications.
- Support the inclusion of the policy in proposals and donor engagement.
- Act independently and in the supervisor’s stead as needed, exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
- Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
- Works with TNC’s Legal and Grants staff to ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements.
- Financial responsibility includes working within a budget and helping to meet fundraising objectives.
- Manage and implement assigned projects, coordinate the work of peers and set deadlines.
- May manage or participate in complex or sensitive data collection and analysis.
- May supervise support or administrative staff.
- Persuasively convey the mission of TNC and our policy agenda to diverse groups, including but not limited to, donors, policymakers, private sector entities, and corporations.
- Travel up to 25% of the time as needed, observing all safety and health protocols.
- The work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Bachelor degree and 3 years related experience in similar positions and/or in economics, public policy, social science, and conservation.
- Experience writing for a diverse audience.
- Experience in managing and tracking projects and proposals.
- Experience, coursework, or other training in environmental economics, public policy, and data analysis as it relates to sustainable development and/or conservation outcomes.
- Experience with quantitative data and analysis
- Experience with Excel and PowerPoint.
- Fluency in Spanish and English.
