Director, Operations

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

• Supervise operations staff and keep employees compliant with company policies and procedures
• Design and manage the strategic and logistical planning of San Antonio Terminal operations, setting specific guidelines to achieve objectives and priorities
• Evaluate, together with the executive team, the best planning strategies to achieve efficient productivity, controlling costs in coordination with relevant departments
• Plan the incorporation of new technologies and automation systems to improve performance and staff productivity
• Establish annual strategic objectives for the area to identify opportunities to boost efficiency and improve operational performance
• Build strategic alliances with shipping lines, port authorities, suppliers, customers, and union leaders to increase trust and foster collaboration, ensuring excellent service and proper business functioning
• Define policies and processes focused on operational efficiency, profitability, and human development
• Manage budgets aligned with the annual planning of dependent areas
• Coordinate with department management to set maintenance plans (preventive, corrective, predictive) to ensure resource and infrastructure availability
• Promote and lead a safety culture throughout the organization, actively identifying risks and proposing plans to eliminate them
• Support initiatives to raise awareness and improve safety, security, and environmental standards
• Implement and maintain DP World's general safety standards at the terminal, ensuring all operations are carried out safely and responsibly
• Lead overall terminal operations execution with the Operations Team to meet productivity targets (kpis, lambda, etc.)
• Ensure compliance with safety requirements, customs regulations, and contractual agreements
• Support General Manager and Engineering & Maintenance Areas to optimize resource deployment and reduce waste and costs
• Guarantee workload compliance within budget limits and propose improvements for service excellence
• Prepare statistical reports related to operational performance
• Engage with service providers supporting operations (cruise, RoRo, bulk, containers, etc.) to ensure compliance with duties and responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• University degree in Civil Engineering, Business, Transport, or related fields
• Proven experience as Director of other port terminals or in the industry
• Strong knowledge of terminal operating systems
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, Navis, and related IT tools
• Minimum 5 years in operations in leadership roles and extensive knowledge of customs documentation and processes
• Knowledge of Maritime and Port Legislation
• Experience in union negotiations
• Advanced English proficiency; Bilingual capabilities preferred
