Machinist

As a Machinist, you will use blueprints, sketches, or computer-aided design (CAD) and manufacturing files to produce precision metal parts. You will set up different types of equipment that are controlled by computers for their work in order to accomplish goals with accuracy while also maintaining high levels of production rates. You will operate and maintain lathes and milling machines. You will review drawings or samples to ensure accurate production; take precise measurements for cutting/shaping tasks using appropriate machine settings.

**Responsibilities**:

- Review samples, drawings or instructions to understand specifications of output
- Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job
- Take measurements and mark material for cutting or shaping
- Select appropriate machines (e.g. lathes) and position or load material for a job
- Determine and program size of batches, speed of machine, etc.
- Monitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issues
- Check output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects
- Keep records of approved and defective units or final products
- Perform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages

**Qualifications**:

- High School Degree or Equivalent required
- Licenses/Certificates/Designations - National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) credentials required
- 2-5 years experience as Machinist
- 2-5 years experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders etc.)
- 2-5 years experience using CAD software
- Proficient in all aspects of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining, including milling, turning, and close tolerance manufacturing
- Possess excellent attention to minute details, especially when taking measurements before beginning work
- Proven knowledge of and ability to use precision tools (e.g. calipers) to take accurate measurements
- Proven knowledge of the properties of metal and other material
- Proven ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals
- Good math skills with analytical abilities
- Ability to travel up to 25%

**Working Environment**: Warehouse - Work is generally performed in a warehouse environment. The noise level is moderately quiet. Generally well ventilated and well lighted. Warehouse employees may be exposed to all kinds of weather and may be required to wear protective clothing. Operates heavy equipment. Strict safety regulations may be required.

**Physical Expectations**:

- Work is physically strenuous, and workers are required to lift heavy packages up to 50 pounds.
- Work may require excessive bending or stooping.
- Employee required to use hand tools.
