POSITION OVERVIEW

AFP is seeking a dedicated multimedia news producer for a full-time role within its Latin America division. This position is based in a vibrant region known for its diverse journalistic themes, including societal, economic, and political issues, as well as cultural topics.

As a multimedia news producer, you will be responsible for delivering timely news coverage, producing high-quality features, and managing a network of local contributors. Your role will involve developing live news coverage and establishing a robust network for sourcing third-party visuals. Ensuring the integrity of our news reporting and adherence to editorial standards is paramount.

The position requires flexibility in working hours, including early mornings, late nights, and weekends, with the expectation of being on call. Travel may be necessary for reporting assignments within the region.

You will report directly to the Bureau Chief and collaborate closely with coordinators and senior management. Strong news judgment and editing capabilities are essential. Additionally, you will be tasked with mentoring local contributors and photographers, demonstrating persistence and patience in gathering information in challenging environments.

Candidates should adopt a multimedia approach, coordinating effectively with text reporters and photographers to enhance storytelling.

It is crucial to note that all AFP journalists engage in the newsgathering process across various formats, contributing to the overarching goal of delivering high-quality multimedia journalism. Collaboration is key, as text journalists provide vital context for video reports, and visual journalists assist in gathering information for written content.

As the media landscape evolves, your role may adapt to meet the demands of diverse audiences and coverage requirements.

Planning is a critical aspect of this position, and you will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date information on AFP's integrated calendar system to facilitate effective news event planning.

You are expected to uphold AFP's ethical standards and editorial guidelines, with a solid understanding of user-generated content policies.

Monitoring social media is a key responsibility, and adherence to agency guidelines regarding social media engagement is essential. You will also play a role in combating misinformation by supporting digital verification efforts and ensuring you are well-versed in online investigation techniques.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for candidates who possess:

• Proven experience in capturing breaking news and producing concise news packages for broadcast;
• Exceptional shooting and editing skills;
• Proficiency in digital non-linear editing software, preferably Premiere or QTube;
• Strong news judgment and awareness of current events;
• Ability to meet tight deadlines;
• Capacity to remain composed under pressure and willingness to work outside regular hours when needed;
• Fluency in Spanish, with excellent command of French and/or English; knowledge of additional languages is advantageous; familiarity with social media and AFP's verification processes.
