Purdue University's Gabis Arboretum is looking for a dedicated and hardworking Seasonal Gardener Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our grounds crew, you will be responsible for maintaining the health and appearance of our plant collections and assisting with volunteer efforts.

About the Position

This is a seasonal position that will end in November 2024. If you are passionate about gardening and working outdoors, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities
  1. Maintain garden beds by ensuring they are free from debris, litter, and weeds.
  2. Trim and edge around walkways, flower beds, and walls to maintain a visually appealing landscape.
  3. Contribute to the upkeep of Gabis Arboretum's extensive plant collections, including conifers, oaks, roses, and native plants.
  4. Prune shrubs and trees to promote healthy growth and shape.
  5. Plant grasses, flowers, trees, and shrubs to enhance the arboretum's beauty.
  6. Foster positive relationships with gardening volunteers and encourage their engagement in the gardens.
  7. Assist in updating our Botanical Garden Database software to ensure accurate records.
  8. Sharpen and maintain tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears.
  9. Support the maintenance of trails, roads, paths, turf, and other areas of the property.
  10. Perform custodial functions of Gabis facilities as needed.
  11. Assist with event setup, breakdown, and support event and facility rental staff when required.
