La Serena, Coquimbo, Chile Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy A tiempo completo

The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) is a consortium of leading institutions dedicated to advancing astronomical research and education. We are seeking an exceptional postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the NOIRLab Postdoctoral Research Fellowship.

This fellowship offers a unique opportunity for outstanding early-career scientists to conduct independent research related to the mission of NOIRLab, with a focus on forefront Optical-Infrared (OIR) astronomy research. The fellow will have the chance to explore and contribute to a wide range of activities within the NOIRLab portfolio, including innovative observational techniques, instrumentation, large data sets and data systems, artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in astronomy, solar system science, and computation and theory.

During the fellowship, the researcher will spend most of their time on an independent research program of their choosing, which can connect with NOIRLab facilities and programs, develop research collaborations with NOIRLab scientific staff, and actively contribute to the research environment at NOIRLab. Additionally, the fellow will have the opportunity to work with NOIRLab staff on activities related to the development and deployment of optical and/or infrared capabilities, techniques, data sets, and analysis tools.

We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds and interests to apply, with a strong emphasis on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) throughout the astronomical scientific workforce. Our DEI initiatives include mentoring students, conducting outreach to local schools and communities, partnering with teachers in underserved areas, developing or implementing data-focused educational resources, and exploring other creative avenues to promote DEI in the sciences.

The position comes with a competitive salary range of $65,000-$72,000, depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and job location. The AURA benefits package includes paid time off, retirement plan contributions, and a very attractive work environment. To be considered in the first round of reviews, please submit your application by December 23, 2024.
