**Job Description:**

We are seeking an experienced Dark Skies Protection Director to lead our team dedicated to protecting dark skies near astronomical observatories in Chile.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience managing science-related programs, leading staff, and developing budgets, reports, and annual plans.

This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team focused on addressing light pollution and its impact on astronomy and the environment.

**Responsibilities:*

  • Provide technical information, conduct studies, and assist with outdoor lighting design and deployment to reduce sky brightness.
  • Inform civic sectors, public services, and institutions about the need to protect the night sky in coordination with regional authorities.
  • Disseminate regulations and norms associated with light pollution, promoting better understanding and compliance.
  • Support public and private entities in adapting their lighting fixtures or carrying out new projects that meet regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with state administration entities overseeing relevant regulations.
  • Conduct measurements of artificial light at select locations and monitor secular changes.
  • Quantify the impact of light pollution on scientific performance.

**Requirements:**

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Astronomy, Physics, or related fields with management experience.
  • Experience and familiarity with light pollution and its impact on astronomy and the environment.
  • Technical skills in precision measurement, data manipulation, analysis, and presentation.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience managing science-related programs, leading staff, and developing budgets.
  • Ability to lead diverse teams and work collaboratively across organizations.
  • Effective communication skills in spoken and written English and Spanish.

**Additional Information:**
