We are seeking a skilled Shelter Veterinarian Expert to join our team at the City of Springfield. As a key member of our animal care team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality veterinary care to animals in our shelter.

• Examine and diagnose animals, performing routine and emergency medical treatment as needed.
• Vaccinate animals against common diseases and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Prepare quarantine reports for local authorities and maintain accurate patient medical records.
• Perform surgical sterilizations, emergency surgeries, and dental procedures on all species.
• Maintain a clean and organized clinic environment, ensuring proper inventory management and DEA compliance.
• Establish relationships with community veterinarians and provide consultation to staff on euthanasia procedures.
• Oversee training of personnel on medical procedures, including vaccine administration and euthanasia.
• Collaborate with the animal care team to prevent and control disease in the shelter population.
• Report suspected animal cruelty and prepare related reports and documentation.

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree.
• At least two years of experience working in a shelter environment.
• Current Massachusetts Veterinary License in good standing.
• Maintenance of malpractice insurance is required.
