The EM Specialist contributes to developing The Nature Conservancy’s global large-scale fisheries strategy and the global strategy’s alignment and execution into the Humboldt Current context. The Specialist helps to establish the Conservancy as a major conservation partner for Electronic Monitoring (EM) in Ecuador, Peru, and Chile, and within the Latin America Region.

Working closely with TNC country programs of Ecuador, Peru, and Chile, and global teams, he/she may drive and contribute to strategy design, coordinate implementation, and facilitate adaptive management. The EM Specialist will support country programs in EM-related national policy dialogues, may represent TNC in regional fishery management fora, and engage in industry roundtables.
He/she develops and maintains strong partnerships with other NGOs, academic and scientific institutions, local and regional fisheries management agencies, and other relevant organizations to build a strong analytical and institutional foundation to design and implement EM policies and practices in the Humboldt Current Large Marine Ecosystem. He/she may contribute to innovative methods, tools, and frameworks that address the scaling of Electronic Monitoring, as well as negotiate complex and innovative solutions with government agencies and industry partners.
The Specialist will contribute to advancing the growing portfolio of projects in the Humboldt Current and the Latin America Region, focused on fisheries transparency and seafood sustainability. It will entail fundraising efforts in alignment with the country, regional and global teams.
This is a dynamic position that works across at least three Latin American country programs, the global strategy team, and the business functions of operations, finance, communications, policy, and corporate engagement.
Perfil buscado
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ experience in fisheries management or a similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in Latin America.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects, staff, and volunteers.
- Demonstrated experience building partnerships and strong relationships with the private sector, coastal communities, government agencies, and civil society organizations related to marine conservation and fisheries management issues.
- Experience completing tasks independently and timely.
- Experience with communication, via written, spoken, and graphical means in Spanish and English.
- Experience in training and curriculum design.
- Availability to travel up to 25% both domestically and internationally.

**DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- Knowledge of large-scale fisheries management and marine conservation principles and practices, preferably in Latin America.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in implementing electronic monitoring systems in fisheries, preferably in the Humboldt Current.
- Knowledge of current political, socioeconomic, and governance trends and practices that affect the marine environment, particularly in the Humboldt Current.
- Demonstrated experience in fisheries management and corporate engagement.
- Familiarity with DEIJ frameworks.
- Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in marine conservation, fisheries management, and governance.
