This position will be temporarily vacant for a period of three months. This position is located in the Statistics Division. The Associate Statistician reports to the Chief of the Division.

**Responsibilities**:
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Division, the Associate Statistician will be responsible for the following duties:

- Assists in designing, organizing, planning and managing the collection, evaluation, analysis, compilation and dissemination of statistical data.
- Assists in developing, implementing and managing statistical database(s).
- Assists in training and technical support on data collection programmes, country practices and other related information.
- Assists in the development or revision of standards on statistical concepts, definitions and classifications by performing methodological research.
- Prepares draft technical documents for international, intergovernmental and expert group meetings and assists in drafting relevant reports.
- Assists in the organization of seminars, working groups and expert meetings.
- Guides, trains and supervises general service and professional staff in the function.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

Education
A first-level university degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology or related field is required.

Job - Specific Qualification
Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in statistics, finance, accounting, economics or related area is required.

Experience in working with environment statistics is required.

Experience working in the framework of Agenda 2030 is desirable.

Experience in capacity building activities in Latin America and the Caribbean is desirable.

Experience working with national statistical offices, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean is desirable

Two years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position fluency in English and Spanish (both spoken and written) is required.

NOTE: ‘Fluency’’ equals a rating of ‘’fluent’’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand)
