Research Assistant

This position is available for a period of six (6) months and is located in the Division of Production, Produtivity and Management at ECLAC, Santiago. The Research Assistant reports to the Chief Of the Unit of Innovation and New Technologies.
**Responsibilities**:
Under the general supervision of the Chief Of the Unit of Innovation and New Technologies, the research clerk will be responsible for the following duties:
- Researches, compiles and organizes information and reference materials from various sources for reports, work plans, studies, briefings, meetings/conferences, etc.
- Revise and analyze relevant literature on digital technologies for development, structural change and equality.
- Identifies tools, news and statistics from different sources about digital technologies, development, structural change and equality. Generates a variety of standard statistical and other reports, using various databases.
- Implements, feeds, and updates the website of the Observatory for Digital Development.
- Systematically follows through and retrieves, highlights and compiles information from a wide variety of information sources; and prepares input for the electronic database and the website.
- Researches, extracts, and collects basic information and data for monitoring the digital development of countries in the region, considering its validity and relevance. This includes carrying out data innovation using data science techniques; assembles and examines statistical material to ensure accuracy, clarity and validity; makes appropriate data clearance and adjustments.
- Prepares, maintains, and updates internal databases; designs and generates a variety of periodic and ad hoc indicators, reports, statistical tables, charts, graphs, diagrams, visualizations and other background materials/notes to facilitate the in-depth analysis.
- Assists in the preparation of presentation materials using appropriate technology/software.
- Responds or drafts responses to routine correspondence and other communications; uses standard word processing package to produce a wide variety of large, complex documents and reports.
- Performs a wide range of office support, administrative and research functions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Monitors processes and schedules related the unit’s outputs, products, tasks, etc.; where applicable, assists in the verification of receipt and accuracy of requisite documents, approvals, signatures, etc. to ensure compliance with relevant legal, financial and other requirements.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job - Specific Qualification
A certification or advanced training in SQL, R or Python is required.
Relevant third level studies in Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or evidence of exceptional ability in related fields is required.
Work Experience
At least five years of experience in collecting and researching data across various areas of social and economic development or related area.
A least five years of experience on supporting social and economic research, are required.
A least five years of experience on supporting social and economic research, are required.
Experience in Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics or evidence of exceptional ability in related fields is required.
Experience in graphs, visualizations and statistics and analysis of these in the context of the development of the digital economy in different countries is desirable.
Experience in updating data in web platforms required.
Experience with Java, Tableau, Qlik, Jupyter, Hive, Spark, MongoDB modern statistical software such as Stata, R, SAS, SPSS, EViews, etc. is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position fluency in Spanish and English is required.
NOTE: ‘’Fluency’’ equals a rating of ‘’fluent’’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand).
