**Major Duties**:
The purpose of this position is to plan, manage, and administer a comprehensive year round health and fitness program, and the facilities used in conducting the activities that comprise the program at a Marine Corps Installation. The program serves a population of active duty; reserve, and retired military personnel, their family members, civilians, and other authorized customers. The incumbent will plan, develop, organize, manage, and supervise diverse and comprehensive health and physical fitness programs, which include group exercise classes, self-directed fitness programs, incentive programs, special events, and instructional programs.
Serves as the installation Liaison with agencies internal and external to the Marine Corps to: enhance the health promotion program; administer the daily operation of the Installation¿s Health Promotion Program; and develop, coordinate and integrate Health Promotion Programs with Marine and Family Services, the Navy Health Clinic, Safety Office, Employee Assistance Program Coordinator, and other base wellness activities as deemed appropriate to the activity. Plans and conducts comprehensive programs on the health and physical well being of beneficiaries to include the following elements: physical activity, injury prevention, nutrition, obesity, substance abuse, mental health, responsible sexual behavior and disease management.
Contributes to readiness and improving productivity through programs that promote fitness, sports, esprit de corps, and quality of life for authorized customers. Conducts various levels of group exercise classes. Coordinates the use of fitness facilities to accommodate the comprehensive Semper Fit Program, and ensures weekly/daily inspections are conducted on fitness and sports equipment, and facilities with discrepancies documented and forwarded to the appropriate office for correction. Drives a government vehicle to travel to various sites on the installation to oversee the lifestyle habits of participating beneficiaries. May transport equipment and audio visual aids.
Provides enhanced health and fitness programs and supports the Sports Program. Ensures required annual training is accomplished at the unit level, and coordinates with Unit Commanders on Installation outreach programs to include: health risk assessments, health screenings, seminars, classes, workshops, and annual training requirements.
Plans, coordinates and conducts recurring and non-recurring education and awareness activities, and special events. Establishes a comprehensive annual plan, to include program goals and objectives that align with Marine Corps Policy, program metrics and the Healthy People 2010 objectives, and that identifies and prioritizes health risks of the given population. Customizes comprehensive health promotions and management strategies to promote improvement of the population¿s overall health status. Establishes monthly calendars for scheduled activities in support of health promotions, and national health observances to publicize activities.
Surveys and evaluates patron interest and needs to determine desires of the serviced community. Continually evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing activities, resources, and program objectives, and adapts and alters program activities based on findings.
Initiates purchase requests for required equipment, supplies, and services. Prepares and submits the annual budget for review/approval. Performs a variety of administrative tasks to include but not limited to: establishing and updating operating procedures, preparing management narratives, after action reports etc.
Reports significant issues and problems related to work accomplishment to the higher-level supervisor. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities to include: supervising, mentoring, structuring assignments, and reviewing work of subordinates based on deadlines. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Provides and advocates recognition and feedback for employee performance and contributions, and recommends appropriate honorary and/or monetary awards. Advises employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management, and assures that mission and accuracy requirements are met.
Develops, prepares and documents a five year plan to replace or repair program equipment and supplies, and ensures equipment and supplies are available
