**YOUR POSITION WITH TNC**:
The Protect Land & Water (PLW) Lead develops, manages, and advances conservation programs, plans and methods for large-scale geographic areas.
In a broader sense, the PLW Lead will be responsible for working with Chile conservation and science specialists to design and implement the Land and Water Protection strategy for TNC’s iconic places in Chile (Mediterranean, and Patagonia), they will be representing TNC in discussions of the National System of Protected Areas, leading TNC’s protection and restoration of wetlands and other water bodies and representing TNC in multi-stakeholders initiatives, among other responsibilities.They will share wisdom and lessons learned as part of TNC’s Global Protection community and may also play a role with other key global protection priorities in Latin America. The PLW Lead is supervised by the Conservation Director and works in close collaboration with other conservation leaders and their teams designing and implementing conservation initiatives. Their working address must be Santiago, Chile.The position is for a period of 18 months fixed term contract with the possibility of renewal for additional years.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:
The Protect Land & Water Lead provides management and technical leadership and support to the Chile Program and to the Latin America Region by planning, directing, and implementing protected area land and water conservation and restauration programs and projects. In coordination with the Executive team and support from areas such as Policy, Development and Science, addresses critical threats to biodiversity assets, fosters cross-site learning among an international conservation community. They develop and implement conservation strategies and implements a variety of initiatives conservation tools to secure land and water protection and public and private support for TNC conservation priorities.
Uses TNC code of conduct and competencies as a baseline to conduct their actions and be an example for others.
**RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE**:
- Lead the process securing TNC’s partnership in Fondo Naturaleza and Chile Water Funds
- Design and implement the Land and Water Protection strategy for Chile, that plays to TNC’s strengths, supports the work of our partners, aligns with the TNC’s Shared Conservation Agenda & definitions for iconic landscapes in Chile
- Lead restauration and conservation projects in which TNC engages in each of the Iconic Places (Mediterranean and Patagonia)
- Lead TNC’s protection and restauration of wetlands and other water bodies projects
- Coordinate with Latin America Regional staff working on regional and country-level protection strategies
- Contribute to the fundraising developing proposals and actions plans for innovative strategies
- Play a lead role in securing resources, support, and internal alignment to help advance the program
- Develop innovative (financial) mechanisms for conservation
- Provide for communications with Global TNC and Chile communications
- Works closely with policy makers to advance conservation
- Articulate and make TNC’s conservation actions known and visible
- Identify opportunities for building new alliances as well as with other partners
- Engages local community support for local conservation efforts
- Manages conservation projects in Chile, prepare technical reports and supervises the adequate execution of field interventions
Other duties:
- Accompany processes of articulation of TNC projects with the public agencies in charge of conservation
- Secure cooperation from entities outside TNC to accomplish program goals. Networks with diverse groups, including landowners, conservation partners, government officials, donors, board members and the general public to recruit support for the Conservancy
- Financial responsibility within/managing a budget to complete projects, assisting with budget development, and meeting fundraising targets. May include working negotiating, and contracting with vendors
